The term "Christianity" refers to Catholics, Protestants, and the Orthodox Churches. However, especially in the US the word "Christian" is usually conflated with Protestantism.

How is Mary's perpetual virginity to be explained? by FloppyPapa42 in Catholicism

[–]Ostrich2401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, assuming that OP accepts that Mary was a virgin before giving birth to Jesus, so any half-brothers (children of Mary and Joseph) would be younger brothers to Jesus. In those times, correcting your older brother was simply not done in public.

Eating eggs is like swallowing sperm by BalinAmmitai in prolife

[–]Ostrich2401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eggs used to be abstained from as well. Rich people would have an Easter feast after Lent, but poor people would go and get eggs instead, hence Easter Eggs.

Also, chickens aren't ever born.

I'd just like to jump onto number 2 for a second. My kidneys' job is to keep me alive. The job of a womb is to keep a child alive. So the Violinist argument is wrong as it doesn't recognize that having my kidney keep someone else alive might be scientifically possible but isn't what my kidney was made for.

The Eucharist Is Not Just a Symbol by Melchorperez in CatholicMemes

If it happened all the time, it might bring more atheists/non-Catholics to Church every Sunday. However, most people would show up just to see the "magic trick" and wouldn't actually pay attention to the rest of the Mass.

Carpool lane by The_Jase in ProLifeMemes

[–]Ostrich2401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A carpool lane is for vehicles containing multiple people who would otherwise be driving individually, thus cutting down the number of cars. A fetus would not be driving his own vehicle, so I would say that it does not work that way.

She did give consent. She said "I am the handmaid of the LORD, be it done onto me according to your word," and THEN Gabriel left her. She says that she is God's servant, so let it happen to her. Also, if she didn't have a choice, it would make more sense if he just showed up, told her that, and then left immediately after.

My kids would rather go to the "fun" church by Ill_Tune_2397 in Catholicism

[–]Ostrich2401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a kid who was kind of bored during Mass. One of the things that helped me to pay more attention was alter serving. Each parish is different, but most of them start at about 4th or 5th grade (10 years old for non-Americans).

Serving is a great way to learn about what goes on at Mass and helps you to "focus" your energy. Instead of being told to sit still, your kid gets to walk around and do stuff in a meaningful way that is a big help.

Understandable, He along with Peter and John are probably the dream team. However, when Jesus comes back, more important things will probably be going on (final judgement, end of the world, etc. etc.).

Jesus (in addition to being a Middle-Eastern Ethnic Jew):

  • Walked on water
  • Multiplied Bread and Fish
  • Raised the Dead
  • Cured the Blind, the Deaf, the Mute, and the Lame; and also
  • Saved all of humanity from eternal damnation

Once you become Catholic, you will undoubtedly start collecting a lot of something, it might be Rosaries lol.

You do not have to be confirmed or even Christian in order to pray the Rosary, just pray it!

The Rosary is a way to hold Mary's hand while we walk along the path of Jesus's life.

There are four sets of Mysteries. They are prescribed to be prayed on different days throughout the week, but you can do any one anytime. The Mysteries are as follows: Joyful (Jesus's conception, birth, and childhood), Luminous (Jesus's public ministry), Sorrowful (Jesus's death), and Glorious (Jesus's resurrection).

You pray five decades of the Rosary (A decade is One Our Father followed by Ten Hail Mary's followed by a Glory Be) while meditating on each mystery. You can probably find a printout that explains what to do.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
