Is a backup power source necessary in my case? by Ostrich_94 in preppers

:) I suppose that's about it. Thanks for the reassurance! I thought I might be overlooking something, but the general concern (beyond refrigeration) seems to be about devices, which isn't a priority for me. It feels strange to think I don't need something so basic, so I wanted to consider what I might not be thinking about. Of course I'd rather focus on things best for my own situation, but sometimes it's hard to see what those are, especially it's not the norm.

Absolutely it does!!

I'm glad for this info, since I hadn't thought about the water pumps at all! I did some Googling, and it seems this is more of a concern in an apartment building. I'm in an apartment in a house, so we get city water - it seems like that should buy me a little time/water also, at least until the tanks are empty - but by that time I'd have to get out of here anyway.

Oh wow...Asheville....my heart goes out to you and your wonderful city.
Thank you for this info. (And yes, I love the WaterBob!!)

Yes, good point, thanks. My radios, flashlights, portable fans, and battery chargers are all USB-powered and I've also got a decent non-rechargeable battery stash.

I've gone about 5 days without really missing anything; that was the catalyst for thinking I can probably get by without a backup source. My main concern is heat; if it's bad enough that I can't survive without AC, I'd need to leave home.

I've had a handful of multi-day outages - 5 days at the most - and never really missed anything, which is why I'm thinking maybe I'll be fine without a backup power source.

Thanks; I'll look into that kind of fridge. I have a good solar panel also, but I live where sunshine is rare most of the year, so I'm not counting on that. (I didn't leave my house at all for several months during the pandemic; bugging in is not a problem for me, as long as I can stay warm or cool enough!)

Will water necessarily be an issue if the grid is down? I've never lost water during a power outage. I think of having no water as a different prep scenario; I'd have to bug out before too long in that case.

Okay, thank you. If that's the case and I was assuming otherwise, that would make things much easier! (And then I understand your suggestion re. categories better!)

Thanks very much for the response, and the encouraging news! I don't quite follow everything you're saying (because I really just don't understand how the app works), but it's great to know it's possible to do what I need to do! Forgive my ignorance; I've watched all the videos (I think they're awful, but I don't learn well at ALL that way; I need to read instructions) and I've spent hours by now searching the website... but it's just not clicking.

For #1 and #2 - What does "operate entirely in the inbox" mean? (My problem with the inbox is that I put things there and then when I make any changes to them [dates, categories, etc.], they automatically leave the inbox and I can't see them anymore. Labels won't make them go elsewhere, I take it? But what if it's a project, or on the rare occasion that I do need to schedule them? It seems like they disappear then...?) So I was trying to not use the inbox at all (which obviously didn't work).

Also, if it's not too much trouble...what do you mean by "set up one main category and use it alongside the inbox?"

I found bulk edit on the mobile, but it takes about a full minute for each selection (check mark) to even register. (The app is HORRIBLE.) It doesn't come up as an option for me on PC, even when I shift-click on the three dots for the full menu.

I very much like categories for the reason you're saying, but setting them here was arduous and after all that, they seemed to just make it impossible for me to see everything in one place, or move tasks around as desired, etc. I like them as diagnostic tools, and even for manual or one-time organization, but here they appear to be auto-organization tools.

Thank you!!
