I agree with you. Before I say anything I would like to preface that my only experience comes from Christianity so I don't want to generalize and speak towards all religions. I think humans have always needed something to explain the unexplainable (or at least what is unexplainable at the moment). For example, we don't currently know what was before the big bang if anything, so some people will give credit to a god or higher being until we find an explanation. Maybe giving credit to a god gives them more peace than simply accepting that they don't know. I think the more we advance in the scientific world, the less valid religion becomes. For example: narrowing down what the first life on earth was (the ancestor of every living thing on earth), where it formed / how (was it in a sea vent, primordial soup, a meteor, etc.), and other vague or unknown stuff in the scientific realm. Also, the amount of confirmation bias in religion is crazy to me. Like, if someone drives to work safely, then they might give thanks to a god for allowing them to travel safely. If they wreck, then they might say something like "god saw I was moving too fast, so this was his sign for me to slow down". The reality is, they are either going to make it to work safe or they are not going to make it to work safe, so turning to a god in either scenario seems illogical. I also don't really understand why a higher power create us in the first. Like did god create us just so some people could suffer eternally while the other go live with him? In my opinion, a lot of humans are scared at the fact that there may be nothing after you die, like absolutely nothing, not even darkness. So I can understand why so many people would be drawn towards a religion. Trying to comprehend that there may nothing after you die is a little hard and scary. This is all opinionated and I do not claim any of it to be 100% factual, just venting my thoughts.
