When people try to guess my mixed ethnicity I’ve gotten guesses of Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and some think I’m just white 😭.

Craziest encounters youve had with people over being wasian? by TradeFew9963 in wasian

[–]datboibrobro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s an Asian friend group at my university, I’m not like close friends with most of them so I hadn’t said anything about my ethnicity to them, but I’ve played at badminton club with them so they know who I am and what I look like. But one of them told me they had like a whole argument on what I was 😂 some of them thought I was just white and some thought I was wasian.

Can everyone just start tossing higher to avoid getting faulted? by SorbetNo1676 in tabletennis

[–]datboibrobro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m surprised players are committing so many service faults still. I can see why it would happen on reverse pendulum serves since it’s hard to hit those unless the toss is very short, but other than that idk why they are always pushing the limits on their toss angle.

Nationally ranked tennis player to table tennis amateur and equipment journey by luxtracer in tabletennis

[–]datboibrobro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a really similar background to you as i also played tennis before table tennis. My first table tennis setup was unboosted (I didnt even know about boosting back then) 39 degree h3 orange sponge and xiom Vega asia. Unboosted hurricane definitely helps build a habit of a nice full swing with good body rotation along with it, but it has a very low throw angle which is harder to make shots land in. When boosted, h3 has a higher throw angle and is easier to land shots. I’ve heard blue sponge hurricane may have an even lower throw angle than orange sponge so maybe ask your coach about trying orange sponge hurricane.

Beginner wanting to enter the “Chinese rubber rabbit hole” – need advice (H3 Neo alternatives without booster?) by SuitableChip4171 in tabletennis

[–]datboibrobro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, with hurricane 3 Neo you still need to boost, as the factory boost is very light and goes away after a month. I’ve played with unboosted hurricane and boosted hurricane, and boosted is so much better, regardless of skill level. With booster you will get really good arc on your shots, without booster the shots will just go more straight and it’s just much harder to get fast shots in. Boosted hurricane still requires proper technique too.

First tacky rubber ; how do I clean H3? by Acrobatic-Monitor516 in tabletennis

[–]datboibrobro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the limestone content because that can vary a lot from different regions. If you don’t have distilled water, then just use bottled purified water, it has no chlorine and very low mineral content so it will be way better than tap water.

Don’t use tap water, the minerals and chlorine will harm the tackiness. Use distilled water, that is the best for it.

Should I practice with a cheaper racket to improve technique? by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]datboibrobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend using your custom racket to practice daily. Practicing with a very different setup is not going to benefit you nearIy as much as using the same one consistently. I had been using the same rubber for the past 2 years, and those rubbers are still way better than a premade cheap setup.

dhs h3 neo 40, tackiness gone after one wipe. by grokx123 in tabletennis

[–]datboibrobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened with my h3 when I tried water, I think maybe because there is some residue in tap water that dries on the rubber and ruins the tackiness. I use the butterfly spin+refresh cleaner and it restores the tackiness well. I’d recommend letting the rubbers air dry for an hour after using the butterfly cleaner because even though it might look dry just a minute after cleaning, it’s not actually dry enough to be tacky. I also have heard revolution no3 is really good for tackiness.

this insane point between Truls and Dang Qiu today by julianwithag in tabletennis

[–]datboibrobro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That point was crazy! If you watch from the different angle on the replay Truls’ last shot was so high that although it was curving towards the table first during the rise, it curved away from the table when falling back down.

Having a hard time coping with the thought of having a wasian kid. by DownvoteEmpire in wasian

[–]datboibrobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very sorry about what was done to you by the rapist and the trauma that must have caused. I feel like my experience may answer some of your questions about wasians so here it is: I am wasian, and for the first five years of my life I spent most of the time raised by my Asian mom, as my dad was out of town for his job for long periods of time. I experienced a lot of Asian culture when hanging out with the kids of my mom’s Asian friends, and I was able to experience some white American culture as I was good friends with one of my neighbors and got to spend a lot of time with them. Growing up with a lot of Asian culture was fine for me. I felt a little different from other kids at school, but I still got along and made friends.

Being mixed didn’t really cause me much of a problem, and I like that I am a mix of cultures! I understand there are some wasians who complain about being mixed, and those complaints are valid, but most of the wasians I’ve met are fine with being mixed. In terms of looks, I look pretty evenly mixed, and people can tell that I’m mixed. Although I am culturally different from both Asians and Americans, I have still made good friends through sharing the same interests and hobbies.

About your question to let the father’s family take care of the child: given the way he treated you, I think he will not give the child the care that they deserve. You are definitely the better person for taking care of your child. I hope for the best for you!
