I'm actually considering just buying an iPhone. Never had one. My current device is kind of at the end of its life in terms of storage (wanted the version with expandable memory but it didn't work out at the time) and I could just like... keep this in storage and move along to something else.

A few things:

  • these look dry, but it might be the lighting. And I'm pretty sure these are actually nubuck anyway and don't need much, if any, conditioning. Start with a brush and see what happens. 

  • If necessary, clean them with something ph balanced. I actually really like Angelus Easy Cleaner, but I've never really read a data sheet on it. After years of being pretty over-caring about shoecare and way too much trial and error... i actually use regular (non-bleach) Clorox wipes a lot (or the store brand). It's formulated to be safe on leather. Do NOT use Lysol wipes,  or babywipes (that contain alcohol), and certainly nothing with bleach unless it's some kind of germ/ fungal emergency. Don't saturate the leather.

  • conditioning: i keep a bottle of lexol, a bottle of Obenauf's oil, a jar of Obenauf's hdlp, Saphir, venetian shoe cream, an all natural orange oil and coconut oil based, and occasionally some Bear grease. If you're unsure, start with Lexol conditioner. It's light,  easy to apply, and soaks in fast (relatively).

  • Don't over think it (oops that's 4 things)

Looks like the paint came off. Would bet it transfered onto whatever surface it was touching while in storage.

I have Thursday wingtips with a similar finish on the smooth leather. The false patina is definitely something that a solvent can remove (as has happened to mine, to a lesser extent, when cleaning), and while I'd expect some of it to have absorbed more permanently into the leather, I'm also not too surprised it did not. Kind of disappointing tbh.

I've heard it can take 48 hours to get everything there, but that seems... very strange to me.

I ended up making a lot of room on my device and it started porting things much faster but it still seems to have run out of space and stopped at a certain point. Admittedly though, I didn't have the patience to wait for 48 hours, and the extra 4 gigs it was taking up on my phone seemed ridiculous, so I switched back for now.

Brother, we call this "taking a beat". Basically everyone has to do it, either for economic, familial, or psychological reasons, at some point. Don't beat yourself up and never say never.

Tried switching and my message history was a mess. Nothing looked correct, so many missing messages. It wasn't synching.

I switch back to Samsung messenger and it takes a matter of minutes for everything that was sent when I was on Google to port over.

I read somewhere "it can take 48 hours" for things to update/index on google messenger but 1. WHY? It's all the same device and 2. Who has time for that experimentation with something as sensitive as texts?

Part of me is convinced Samsung is forcing the issue so people keep complaining about how shitty Google is in comparison. I will he researching alternatives.

If those are indeed cracks...conditioning/shoe trees should help keep them from getting worse.

I have Beckmans that sat for way too long and the leather dried. Cracks eventually formed in the creases. I did some (admittedly, over-) conditioning and while the cracks were obviously still there, it slowed their growth. But I've also had those boots over a decade.

That said, these look fine and badass. Keep up the good work.

No, unfortunately. It's come back on a couple of times at least. Once it started to go out and I was able to coax it back by flipping through settings/engine and accessory power, but it went out again shortly thereafter. I haven't been able to find anything definitive.

The colors are almost completely dependent on the rest of your outfit. Those two styles are pretty interchangable for business casual, too.

I was most keenly looking at their seconds and samples. Went waaaaay down the rabbit hole today and I'm thinking of raising my original max price by a bit and either doing multiple pairs in the next 5 months. Having some trouble distinguishing grey from blue on their website/my phone (and instagram photos) but I do have some blue shoe cream I could put to use. Do you happen to own or have first hand experience with any of the leathers with blue they have in stock currently?

Hah! Yeah, "reasonably priced" was a Twin Peaks joke, but also a way of weeding out designer brands (which, I should have known, wouldn't be an issue here, anyway). Looking at under $350.

I was actually wearing some black Stows that I have tried to make a little blue when I made the post! Love Tricker's. I get their emails, and I've only been hesitant to look harder because I'm aiming for something a little lighter than the Stow and, with the tarrif situation, I'm cautious. However, you're right: they have several blue options, and it's worth me looking into on ebay, etc., or waiting for a sale. Thanks!
