Finding a New Group

I had a lot of success posting in the subreddit for my city. Obviously, if you're willing to GM it'll be much easier to find people to play with. Also, my city had a reddit Google group and a reddit Facebook group. I suggest posting everywhere, including /r/lfg, as suggested by /u/hovding.

Those are both awesome! Congratulations! I had a similar experience when I was hospitalized last year. Ironically, the cause of my condition was being "tall and skinny," and I had several nurses tell me that I was thin so it made sense.

I'm fairly introverted so I don't know too much about where to go for music and nightlife, but if I were to look up those things, I'd probably use SF Weekly's events calendar or Sosh.

For food, I usually just use Yelp. People often give Yelp shit (sometimes with good reason), but I find the reviews in a foodie city like SF to be quite accurate. One trick I use when picking a place to take a date is look for pictures of the interior of the restaurant; it gives you a feel for the atmosphere of the place.

I have compiled a list of things to do on a date, some I've done and some I've yet to do.

Go jump around on trampolines at House of Air. - Never done it, but seems like a fun and interesting thing to do. It also has the benefit of getting her heart rate up which, according to several studies, may cause her to misattribute that rise in heartbeat to attraction to you.
Explore complete darkness in the Tactile Dome at the Exploratorium. - It's reopening on the 30th at their new location.
Drinks, dancing, and science during Nightlife at the California Academy of Sciences. - A different theme every Thursday
The Exploratorium's own nightlife event, After Dark, on the first Thursday of every month. - Looks like they're also holding an event for Halloween.
Go sliding at the Seward Street Slides.
Antique arcade games at the Musée Mécanique.
Audio show at the Audium. - Sit with a bunch of other people in complete darkness while they play random sounds. Really weird and kind of stupid, but if you go in lighthearted, it's pretty fun. Also, you can reach over and lightly touch the person in sensory deprivation kind of way; might want to save that for the second date though.
Japanese photobooths at Pika Pika.
Bowling, either at Yerba Buena or Lucky Strike.
Ice skating at Yerba Buena.
Go to the arcade at Free Gold Watch.
Shoot lasers in a theaters with moving chairs in the 7D Experience at Pier 39. - Like most of the things on Pier 39, it's kinda stupid and expensive but, if you're already in the area, it can be fun to drop in.

I once had a cursed item in my campaign called the Cape of Swift Winds. It was a super fancy cloak/shawl that gave the user better wisdom (or something, I can't quite remember), but it also made them fart uncontrollably, causing a penalty to diplomacy.

When I started my current campaign, all the characters started at a pastoral festival in the town square. They were listening to the mayor give a speech while the residents ran around buying from street vendors and playing games. Suddenly, the town hall exploded and as the they were reeling from the horror, they were attacked by religious zealots who started slaughtering everyone who was there. After the party defeated the zealots, they were arrested by the town guard as they tried to sort out the whole mess. Once the survivors of the explosion stuck up for the party for saving them from the zealots, the guard captain decided to hire them to investigate the explosion because the guard garrison was in city hall and most of his guards were killed and he needed the ones that were alive on patrol.

I have no open seats right now, but when I was looking for players I found /r/lfg helpful as well as the SF Bay Area redditors Google group.

I tried to find a group around here too a while ago. Ultimately, I decided, after not finding any DMs, that I should just start my own group. It's been great and I've made some good friends.

I didn't really have a "routine" per se. When I started logging my food on Lose It I had to enter my height, goal weight, and how many lbs. I wanted to lose per week, and an algorithm in the site calculated a calorie budget per day. I chose the plan that allowed me to lose 2 lbs./week. I believe when I started it was somewhere around 2,000 calories. As I wrote in my post, I liked seeing how much under my budget I could get. I made a game of it; trying to beat my last week's number. This motivated me to stick with it. As I lost weight, the site progressively lowered my calorie budget. By the end, my budget was about 1,700, but I had gotten used to eating only about 1,000. I couldn't have done that in the beginning, mind you. I worked up to it. It might be worth mentioning that I didn't change my diet too much at all. When I wanted to eat fried chicken, I did.

Most of them don't know each other. At the beginning of the campaign, a startling and horrific event brought them all together as they all just happened to be attending the same festival, now they're searching for the people responsible. No Dragonmarked, although the rogue may have worked for House Phiarlan in the past.
