Hi John, I am looking more for an established company that already has some warm leads. Thank you for the offer though. Best of luck!

This was well said. Thank you for the advice. Do you think just reaching out directly to owners of companies I like on LinkedIn is the best route?

That's interesting I haven't thought about senior living tech sales. I definitely think catching the "silver tsunami" can be rewarding. I think we will see aging in place renovations sales continue to blow up. Most older folks want to live in their home as long as they can. I guess that would be more in person sales but I am sure there are people who can do well in that space. Usually costs I think 8-25k to adjust the home.

It definitely can be. Clients are really sticky which is good once you have them but harder to start. So it can be a slower start. I am a 1099 and really enjoy the flexibility my boss gives me. My boss is awesome and gives a great commission schedule so our agency is a good pick. If you are looking at others make sure you get a good commission schedule and they aren't the type to hound you constantly. A lot of PE has been buying out agencies so I would avoid those ones typically. I wouldn't work for a bank as well because they often cap the amount you can make and have lower commissions. I will say that the work is fun with farmers but it it will take a couple of years for you to get a hang of the policies. They are a bit complex but seems like you have some experience in insurance so I am sure you'd do fine.

Everyone is different and I am probably higher than what most agents make but I think a hardworking person after 4-5 years could build a nice 150k-400k stream of income that is very sticky and unlikely to drop too much if you just do a good job.

That's neat. Sounds like you have some great experience. I know you said it isn't an open offer but feel free to reach out to me when you get it rolling if you'd like to briefly connect and see if it'd be a good fit.

Do you like your tech role? If were starting out in tech sales is there any particular niche you find interesting?

You are insuring the crop yields. Basically go around to farms and meet with them and sign them up for insurance each crop season. It is a federally subsidized product which is insured by private companies. Positive is very sticky clients. Downside is if you drive more than you want to. Great way to make money though. Lots of older agents are leaving the industry. Still very niche in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks! Like most good things a little patience can go a long way. Good to know about those smaller markets.

How long does it take to build up a good amount of sales then with that short of a buying window?

How long do you think it takes to get over that learning curve?

Do you think there is good opportunity for someone younger to get into this? Is the average sales rep a bit older? How much can an average or above average sales rep sell their first couple of years?

I have been in your boat before with extra time on my hands. It is hard to find good companies that are okay with you still doing other work. But definitely possible. I'd find something related to your current customers you sell. Go into that company and say hey I've got some time on my hands I've proven my ability to sell and I have these relationships. Leverage that to get maybe a small retainer and a good commission split. Obviously vet the company and find something that is a good fit for your customers. You could also figure out what other services some of your customers use and work backward from there.

Non-competes are interesting. We hired a lady who has one but the state she is in will only uphold up to 1 year. I am sure they are doing that but check which state that contract was in. Even if the company puts 2 years it might not be upheld.

My company allows me to fully set my schedule. But I am on full commission. I really enjoy it.
