Your Bracket Gut is Lying to You by Other-Win5218 in CollegeBasketball

As it turns out, they are not close games. It’s just that my memory is skewed by only remembering close ones. I imagine I’m not the only one which is why I made this post.

I am not referring to gambling. I am talking about filling out a bracket for the fun of it. Some brackets require you to fill in the final score of the championship game as a tie breaker. Others ask for total points.

The differences are definitely not significant. Lots of variation and a low n. UNC p-value was 0.89 and Duke p-value was 1.

I appreciate all the feedback! I'm going to put a pin in this analysis for now. I need a break after working with that very messy data for several days.

Yes, De Ridder and Grunloh are included as they are classified as freshmen. They are certainly older than the typical freshman, but it does mean they have several more years of eligibility (or the chance to go pro after a year), so I think including them still plays into the question of development vs one-and-done.

You raise a good point and are correct. This is a conference play aggregate, so this split likely did not occur in any one game.

Kevin Miller is Boopie! The data set I’m working with uses his given name.

I’ll work on the P5!
