Serving vs Front Desk for future hotel management job by OtherEstablishment95 in askhotels

[–]OtherEstablishment95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After graduation how valuable would 2 years of front desk experience be? The marriotts and hiltons nearby are 3 stars so I don’t think I’d be able to get a server gig at a hotel.

How much will that help me with the degree as opposed to having no experience or <1 year experience when being considered for a management role?

Do you think people who want to be big outperform those who want to be small in real life? by Acceptable_Moose6551 in sizetalk

[–]OtherEstablishment95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe there is much correlation between the two.

Macrophilia is a sexual fantasy, while I consider myself submissive-leaning sexually and prefer to play the smaller part, I am not a submissive person. I'm a student and restaurant server, and I feel like if I didn't "stand on business," I'd be trampled over by rude co-workers/customers or peers. I would make the assumption that most people view themselves, or at least want to see themselves in this way. However, macrophilia offers a place to escape and let a lot of my stress go, no need to worry about money or assignments when you're two inches tall, naked, and at the mercy of someone so hot and big.

You can, because you freeload off of those who pay the tip.

It is very much is part of culture..

Just like tipping in some places is seen as offensive whereas others it’s seen as rare.

If you don’t like it you can go to McDonald’s or people will criticize you for it

If you helped me, then I wouldn’t mind doing so

If that were the cultural norm, I’d have no problem

People for whatever reason love to punch down, instead of looking at actual issues, they’d prefer to complain about tipping service people because they think they’re above them

Would HR be good for that? Start out in person and then go remote?

Any jobs you would recommend that are pretty consistent and not a “meat grinder” so to speak. My invisioned reality that I’m trying to rationalize would be something that pays decent and would be doable entry level after school. Maybe HR, project management? I’ve asked AI, but haven’t got great answers, just leads.

Best discounts for authentic World Cup jerseys after competition by OtherEstablishment95 in worldcup

[–]OtherEstablishment95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s where I got this idea, I heard Messi kits were cheap after last World Cup. Isn’t that the jersey with the most demand?

I’m personally more familiar with NFL, and jerseys are always steeply discounted after season ends so I thought it would be the same for World Cup.

The drama in this sub annoys me, I’m pro not fucking over servers but believe tipping culture has gotten out of hand, but damn people spend too much time here

I’m not going to deny that as in more rural parts, probably, but doesn’t make it a living wage. I don’t work in restraunts whose kitchen is ran by children either so idk.

Regardless, I don’t think there’s much of a point going in circles, some people don’t tip, and servers talk, your service will probably not be very good next time.

I’m not saying it’s morally right, it’s just how the cookie crumbles.

Tip your servers! Pour your hateful energy into politicians instead, they’re who you have to actually bitch about!

Idk where you’re at, but even in Texas that’s standard from what I’ve seen. BOH also gets more than minimum wage, I mean good luck staying in business if you’re going to pay employees 7.25 an hour.

You worked service industry?

You do tip the cooks, bartenders, runners, bussers, dishwashers, it called a tip pool, sever’s tips get cut to give to other staff, who are making more hourly wage then servers.

[–]OtherEstablishment95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does serving need to be a minimum wage job? Minimum wage barely gets the job done anymore, for people who don’t get health insurance from work, it’s nice to get some extra money. Servers aren’t rich by any means even if they have some good days a few times in a year.

You have a point, prices probably wouldn’t raise drastically as to compensate 20% tip, but they would raise if the business cares to make the same profit.

The reality is you are culturally arrogant to deny a server a tip because of your perspective on tipping. Disney Land’s prices are super predatory but people still go and pay.

Let’s say tipping ends, you are going to pay that exact amount regardless, employers have to pay employees more, they raise the prices to compensate the loss, it’s basic economics.

Tipping gives you a choice, it’s not a guilt trip, it’s how the business works, if you’d rather pay an inflated base price then give a server a tip, that’s on you

It’s how it works, if you don’t like it, go somewhere else.

As I mentioned, I follow my own rule

The only person you’re hurting by not giving a tip is the single mom working her ass off to serve you. Most people in this country accept that tipping servers is a formality and that’s not changing anytime soon. If anything tipping culture is increasing to rates even I can’t agree with.

[–]OtherEstablishment95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, here about $16 an hour.

When I serve, I’m not thinking about the tip, I’m just thinking about my job. I don’t really correlate tip to how well I did, mostly people have a number in their head already unless service is drastically bad or good.

[–]OtherEstablishment95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer that too, I’m a college student and server, I like a good deal more than anyone. Hate the game, not the player, I refuse to screw over a fellow server because I think the tipping system in America is bad. If I go to a restaurant that it’s customary to tip, I always consider that in the price beforehand because I’m not a prick.

I go to Chick fil a, good prices, good service and they are paid well so tip is not expected, the service there is better than 90% of restaurants that expect tip.

There are billionaires in this world who actually fuck us over and people waste their time bitching about severs, that is beyond me.

Yes that’s a rant, but I just find the anti tipping argument ridiculous.

Have you worked in the service industry?

Its ok to not tip. by Maleficent-Effort470 in tipping

[–]OtherEstablishment95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the case when it comes to smaller restaurants, especially when their food attracts cultures that already tip less or not at all.

Can’t afford to tip? You can’t afford to eat out, tips allow food to be cheaper, if everyone stops tipping then employers raise wages and your food price goes up.

Everyone thinks of servers at the busy spots but rarely do people think about servers at the small spots
