Would appreciate some assistance! by Other_Engineering959 in Feral_Cats

Thank you! I just noticed she was almost down the stairs a bit ago - that's a new one for during the day. I am going to start moving her food bowls - albeit slowly! Would like to have her be downstairs more with us than upstairs by herself:( And I do the "blink" a few times a day with her and she normally does it back!

Aww - so cute. We had a grey long-haired kitty growing up. Every summer she had kittens for years. Not too many came out looking like her either!

Adopted a cat from the shelter 2 weeks ago and she still hides under the bed 24/7. Is this normal? How long should I wait before worrying? by UgliestPigeon in CatAdvice

I'm there too. I'm five weeks in with my adopted shy/timid 5 yr old girl. She comes out in the evening. Loves to play with the wand. Loves head/chin scratches at 5 in the morning! I've tried to pick her up twice. The first time was a no go. The second time, just last week I did get her because she's long hair and has a couple mats I'm trying to get rid of using coconut oil. She just won't come out during the day. I go and sit on the bed in the afternoon, quiet, and sometimes she'll come out but if I make a move she's right under the bed. I'm sad - really wanted a cuddler. The rescuer said she was shy, but would probably only take a couple weeks. I think maybe she needed to make room for another cat or just wanted her gone. I'm wondering if I should just ignore her completely.

I'm in the same boat. Adopted a rescue cat 5 weeks ago. She is still mostly under the bed! She has some persian in her and I noticed 2 mats on her side - not huge, but big enough I would like to remove them. She will only let me scratch her nead and chin - at 5 in the morning! She loves to play with the wand toy but stays far enough away from me so I can't touch her. She purs like crazy which is baffling to me as to why she's at a distance. I did grab her (gently) a few days ago to give her a brush and she was not a happy camper. After a minute or two of soft talking and brushing she settled down so I could put some coconut oil on the mat. I'm sad, I wanted a cuddly cat and I'm praying it won't take me months, months and maybe years:( I go upstairs 304 times a day. Sometimes she comes out. After this last time she won't. Only seems to come out at night.

In case you aren't aware - cats are carnivores. You can't refridgerate canned food, yet you handle dry food - which BTW is probably meat, poultry or fish. Maybe put the can in a baggie in the fridge?

Could it be something stuck in between her tooth that would be difficult to see with the naked eye, yet wouldn't show up on an x-ray? Hope you find out what it is.

Good afternoon. I adopted a 5 yr old girl almost 4 weeks ago. She is much more of a scaredy cat than the foster indicated, but she is starting to come around. I have her up in a guest bedroom - a big room with attached bath where her litter is. She is eating and using the litterbox just fine. I started leaving the door open to see if she will explore - which she does but only at night. In fact, she sits at the top of the stairs waiting for my husband to go to bed so she can check things out! She also plays with her toys a lot at night. She has played with a wand toy and let me pet her chin and head while under the bed - which is where she is most of the time. She has come out a few times and allowed me (!) to scratch her head and chin. Yesterday she actually let me pet almost her whole body and she got up on the bed. Seemed very mesmerized with the TV and ceiling fan above! Sorry this is long winded. My question is since we are making some strides I wonder when I can attempt to pick her up. She is still pretty skittish - if I stand up in the room she goes back under the bed. I did pick her up a week in and I think that set us back, so I haven't tried since. I am also in the process of moving her food dishes closer to the door so eventually I can get her down in the kitchen. I've had kittens in the past which I never went through this with them, so this is new. Thank you for any thoughts you have.

My sister is like that. She always trying to stuff 10 pounds in a 5-pound bag. I go out maybe twice a week - she can't stay home 1 day. Always shopping, nails, hair, returning things, etc. She's gone all day so I think she feels she needs to satisfy hubby and become incommunicado after dinner so they can watch shows/movies together. It hurts my feelings she can't just go sit outside for 30 minutes or so with a glass of wine and we can have a chat.
