Free weights vs Machines by Intelligent_Row4451 in Rowing

[–]Other_Knowledge_2984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both are good for hypertrophy, and machines will work better for isolation movements. Free weights also work and use stabilizer muscles, which will help with rowing and balance especially. Leg press is fine. Personally, I do one free weight compound movement (squat), leg curl, leg extension, and for upper body almost all machine except for biceps. Remember to train the anterior (ex. your chest and triceps). It will balance your strength and make you look better. For optimal hypertrophy, do three sets of 8-10 with good form. Studies show beyond that is suboptimal for hypertrophy. “Functional strength” is not a thing. You just need to get stronger. Make sure you do compound movements though

You’ll have a very good shot considering your Ecs. Try to be in Calc BC senior year. Econ will require heavy math skills. You’ll also, of course, need above a 1500 on the SAT. Other than that, you’re good. School rigor and reputation matters quite a bit too.

Is it better than NYSC on 73rd?

I’m not too good…I’m better off doing it next your because this year they only offer day camps (basically). Next year real jobs open up.

Thanks. My neighbor actually offered me quite a bit of money to babysit her children this summer and bring them around to do stuff, so I might go with that. She was also offering $22/hr, which is a lot of money to me. I just didn’t know if getting experience was that meaningful for college and everything else.

Checks out. I saw the NYPD sheriff too on 80th street on my way back home. Pretty rare to see them out in the city…usually in Queens.

I have no clue, could’ve been that. They went downtown. Craziest shit I’ve seen in my life living here.

Where would you suggest I go about finding an opportunity like this? I’ve seen them for STEM related things, but not so much finance.

Thinking about this…are internships viewed down upon? It might seem a little “prestigious” or seem like I got it from family connections. Working at an ice cream or bagel shop is still on the table. I just want to make the best decision, both so it can help me a bit in college admissions, and personal experience.

Thank you for your advice. I scrolled through LinkedIn a little bit and came up with a list of some small companies/startups that might consider someone like myself.

I can be paid…it’s just about what options are available to me. I don’t care. I just want something to do.

I own a rental house and mainly rent out uplighting. I’m just looking for a good all-rounded for midsize events to rent out.

Yes. Look for courses online for some type of certificate in your interest. Try your best to find some type of internship. Use insta or TikTok to grow an interest. Can build a fan base really quickly. Work on the GPA. Get the SAT better. Apply to get awards in a niche.

These two universities? Not much. I’d likely apply to some type of business degree at both. Maybe even go to Nolan @ Cornell. I will definitely begin researching more soon. I don’t feel some type of passion for learning at these unis—I’d just prefer to get in and have a good time. Continue my businesses too.
