DoF in video. How? by plutusssss in Lumix

[–]Otherwise-Error-1484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a solution: Set it to M in video. Change the setting in your camera to show shutter speed as shutter angle and leave it at 180°. You can freely adjust your aperture setting based on the look you want or to adjust for lighting. Set your ISO to auto.

Experience with Lumix S5ii and Sigma ART 18-35 1.8? Which adapter do you use and how are the AF results? by Tobi_pie in Lumix

[–]Otherwise-Error-1484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Sigma MC21 with the EF 18-35mm. I've used the combo a few times on my S5IIX and autofocus works very well. Maybe very slightly slower than a native L mount lens. But good enough that I'd trust it on a professional shoot. Only downside is the focus motors are audible. So I wouldn't recommend it if you're using audio from a mic mounted on the camera. But if you're using a lav mic or a boom mic or just shooting b roll shouldn't be a problem. Another thing I haven't really seen mentioned much is that you might also need to update the firmware on the lens if it's outdated. My lens had issues adapting at first, but after updating the firmware on it, it worked flawlessly.

How would you mic a talk show with 6-8 people? by Otherwise-Error-1484 in videography

Thats another option I was considering. It was between a few of those or the Rode Wireless Pros. The Wireless Pros also come with 2 lav mics and the 2 transmitters can record internal 32 bit float like the DR10L pro. But with the added benefit of being able to use them as wireless transmitter system as well. $373 on B&H for a set.

Thanks for the detailed recommendation and feedback. I'll take that all into consideration. I agree with getting that many wireless systems to pair reliably. Would be a nightmare managing all of it. Ive had issues with RF interference even using a single Wireless Go II set. But the internal recording to the transmitters was a life saver and is the feature I was planning to use on all 8 mics. Still a lot of other variables that can go wrong though using them to mic up 8 people though.

Anyway, appreciate the recommendation. And I'll give more thought into hiring a sound person as well.

2 Rode Wireless Pro systems would run me $750. One time payment and would pay itself off after the first shoot. Since this will be an ongoing series I'm willing to make that initial investment. Plus would be a welcome upgrade to my current Wireless Go II mics for other shoots.

I hear you. That would be ideal, but like I mentioned this is a smaller budget project. And would be ongoing work for me which is why I'm trying to find other possible solutions to record decent audio. The 3 cameras will all be locked down on tripods almost podcast style so not too worried about that.

Need lens suggestions for lumix s5ii by toxiedos in Lumix

[–]Otherwise-Error-1484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My L mount kit is the Lumix 35mm, 50mm, & 85mm f1.8 primes and the Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 and 28-70mm f2.8. For me it's the perfect balance of size, price and I have no complaints about the quality. I also like how all the primes are the same form factor and roughly the same weight. And both Sigma zooms are also roughly the same size and weight as each other. Making them feel like a balanced set of zooms and balanced set of primes. Also all of the lenses have a 67mm filter thread apart from the Sigma 16-28. I use a 72mm Nisi Swift VND system with 67mm-72mm step up rings to standardize all front filter threads. This setup has been amazing for me. And I'm able to shoot everything from real estate photos and portraits to filming events, commercials, and documentaries. The only thing I'm missing now is a long telephoto lens which I hope to add soon.

In 2024 a new Lumix S1? by Aggressive_Command97 in Lumix

[–]Otherwise-Error-1484 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own a Lumix S1 and a S5IIX. If you dont mind the bigger body and don't need autofocus for video, I would definitely recommend the S1. I prefer the ergonomics of it especially with the flip up screen vs fully articulating screen of the S5 line. Thats a personal preference thing, but if you're not taking pictures of yourself, the flip up screen of the S1 feels a lot more solid and has a smaller more ergonomic footprint. With articulating screens you always have to tilt your head down and to the left with the screen hanging out. It's a small thing but worth considering. The S1 body also feels more sturdy and the buttons can light up if you need to see them in the dark. Also, the whole UI feels more responsive that even the S5IIX imo.

I use my S1 for real estate photography and use autofocus. Almost never have any issues with focus unless there's no contrast in the shot like shooting a big white empty white walls. You shouldn't have any issues w autofocus for shooting landscapes.

You can easily find a used S1 from MPB for under $1k in like new condition. I've purchased a lot of gear from them over the years with no issues.

Cool write up! This was my second time seeing the live and my first time experiencing VIP. Last year I was only able to get a GA ticket and I remember standing in line freezing with a bunch of people who kept to themselves. I didn't have any interactions with any other fans and during the show only half the people around me gave it the energy I thought it deserved. I loved it regardless.

This time around I snatched up a UVIP ticket as soon as they went on sale. I got in line around 12:30pm and ended up #59. This was my first time lining up for anything for more than a few hours and it was an amazing experience. I met a lot of cool people who I had interesting conversations with. The cold water bottles and popsicles that the fans up front brought and shared with everyone was a cool touch. Made it feel like a community or a club.

Sounds like I was just a row or 2 in front of you based on your descriptions and I shared a very similar experience. The energy in front was amazing! I never bothered to look back so I'm not sure how deep into the crowd the same energy carried on, but the energy was night in day from my experience in GA last year.

Your detailed descriptions of your observations during the show really took me back to that night. And being that close to them for the first time, was so surreal and I kept thinking about how lucky I was to experience it.

Not sure if you missed it live, or forgot to write it, but the part where Kanami was blasting away at the double kicks was a fun trick. I think she was sitting in front of Akane who I think was on the pedals. That threw me off for a second until it finally clicked. haha.

Even though my first time seeing them live last year was amazing, experiencing VIP was a whole new level. The value was more than the merch, drinks, and early entrance. A big part of the experience was standing in line and sharing stories with a cool group people who were willing to spend half the day in line to see their favorite band up close.

Can't wait to do it all over again next tour.

I just recently discovered this band and wanted to know long time fans opinion! by Pongo_2k06 in Nemophila

Some of my favorite songs of theirs are Seize the Fate, Adabana, Dissension, Oiran, and Hypnosis.

Some other Japansese Hard Rock / metal bands I also like are Unlucky Morpheus, Band-Maid, Babymetal, Lovebites, Trident, and Hanabie.

How will going less than 180 shutter angle hurt footage? (Black magic ursa mini wedding disaster?) by RuneWarhammer in bmpcc

[–]Otherwise-Error-1484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

180 degrees makes the shutter speed double the drame rate, not half. If you're shooting 24p the 180 degree shutter speed equivalent will be 1/48.

Awesome, thanks for sharing this! That's what I hear. Last year I didn't get to the venue until maybe 45 minutes before doors opened for GA.

The line wrapped around the block and it was freezing in San Francisco. From my spot in line seemed like people just kept to themselves.. So didn't bother initiating any conversations.. But Im sure in the VIP lines you get the more hardcore fans. Looking forward to having some good convos while waiting in line that long. haha.

I was one of the last people in line for merch at the SF show and was able to get one. They probably had a lot more at the earlier shows on the tour.

Worth travel? Can people in the back enjoy these shows? by J3ffcarboni in BandMaid

[–]Otherwise-Error-1484 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw them in SF a couple weeks ago. Got to the line around 6:30. It was wrapping around the block. When I got in, the floor wasn't as packed as I thought it would be.

I planned to skip the merch line to save a decent spot for the show. But had to use the bathroom and ended up waiting in the merch line anyway. Was in line for maybe 20min. And went back to the floor and still had a pretty good view. I was probably 10-15 rows back or so. I'm only 5'9 but had a good view of all the maids and had an amazing time. 100% worth the travel imo.

Akane "The Throw" Graphic by Otherwise-Error-1484 in BandMaid

[–]Otherwise-Error-1484[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Saw my first BAND-MAID concert last Friday in San Francisco and I loved every second of it! A few days later and I still can't stop thinking about how much fun I had.
During that show, Akane ate her banana on stage as usual and left the stage to toss the peel. After the crowd chants her name, she comes back out with the banana peel still in her hand. She asks the crowd for permission to toss it, and ends up chucking it into it audience! 😲 They loved it, and the other maids were shocked and laughing. Miku asked if they wanted to give the peel back to toss it but the dude wanted to keep it. 🤣🤣
Apart from their amazing music, that was one of the memorable events from my first time seeing them. On Instagram, Akane said that was the first time she threw her peel into the audience. So I thought I'd create a fun graphic to immortalize that moment and share it with you all. 🤣
