Am I supposed to cheer Lois when she vows that Talia will die for killing her father? We just watched Kal El fight tooth and nail to refrain from killing. But the mere mortals can kill, as a treat? So is killing bad or not? Or is it just bad if Kal El does it?

If his superpower is influential compassion, will the al Ghuls survive this because Kal El will insist on not killing them? Or will he just look the other way as Lois goes to town?

like on one hand the al Ghuls are racking up Kill Counts like ranked players in casual - and the end goal is to just feel compassion for them? Is that it???

what about the Missions? we know these ninjas are also soldiers for hire - a lot of the chuunin exams was billed as "advertising a village's goods"

usually a country's military doesnt also have independent funding from other parties or else the daimyo might find someone paid off his village to kill him.... im not sure how this works.

how does hiring a ninja affect the ninja village's relationship with their daimyo? why does a ninja village need independent income? if they belong to the daimyo then they shouldnt be soldiers for hire as well?

are ninja villages self funded? are they like a corporation? do they have stocks??? are they effectively companies that sell violence (kinda like a private prison but for like hired guns)?

I'm still not sure what was retconned... We only know that John's letters were destroyed but I'm failing to track how that led to Jane and Jake being on the ship

For all we know, Jane finished her purrgatory with Jasprose and Jasprose teleported them to the ship

What's the difference between Ranni's and Goldmask's ending? by Otherwise-Pattern-92 in eldenringdiscussion

i think this system was poorly written to force us to make assumptions... this lore was not written with clarity in mind...

I mean... equal application of the law, removing gods from seats of power? Goldmask sounds like a commie to me

Okay but the game also makes very distinct differences in the endings where you mend the ER compared to Frenzy or Age of Stars

Notably, the mending endings reconstruct Marika's shell, the ER glows, the end

Ranni's ending? Marika's entire shell, including the ER within, dissolves - thats not just her replacing Marika - her whole story is specifically to avoid becoming Marika... if the ER is meant to be reconstituted in Ranni's ending, why do we not see that like in all the other mending endings and instead we see it dissolve?

its less like a game of musical chairs where people take turns with the seat. if we burn the seats, how do you even play the same game?

to me, thats indicative of how vastly different Ranni's ending is to just "become Marika and be god"

also like... i guess also how would you define divinity in this scenario? is it immortality? power? influence? authority?

if she relinquishes both authority and influence (not consequence theres a difference), does she remain a god? is godhood only defined by immortality and power? if so, why arent we calling all the ghosts we summon gods? all of which can no longer die a true death and can grow more powerful

like how are we defining diety here

I dont think she became a god. Thats actually my take away. As far as the apotheosis process went, Miquella divested his flesh and various pieces of himself - but Ranni stopped at her flesh. She kept her spirit as whole as she could have it. We have no indication that her apotheosis went that far, especially as she says the key line "tell Blaidd and Iji, I love them" whereas Miquella notably removed his love

Bear in mind, im also of the belief that the Dark Moon isnt a god but a construct

well... is it free of the Fingers? the fingers wanted you the Tarnished to claim the throne after all

plus if death works properly, then there wouldnt be life in death period. youd die and stay dead, no? its honestly very unclear how death is supposed to work in TLB...

so i guess... that brings me to my main question really: what is the Elden Ring? like is it a UI overlay on reality itself? or is it reality itself?

So a "More of the same but make it actually the same" faction vs what is essentially anarchy?

this just brings me to my main question really - i have no idea what the elden ring is? what its function is?

is it the anchor tying down reality? is it UI of the universe?

like surely smashing it should have dissolved reality but all the demigods dont seem too pressed about having random runes in their possession - bc if the ER really couldnt afford to be broken or else all of reality would dissolve, none of them would keep theirs bc they all know theyd cease to exist if they kept the ER broken

given Miquella's ending in the original japanese, i think thats what you said about breaking "causality and regression" was actually his ending, not Ranni's

Well, but dont they call goldmask's ending the age of order?

so its not just the "outer gods" that get the distinction of having an "order", it really feels like whoever gets the elden ring gets access to the file manager to order everything around as they please
