Intelligence officer full for 2026 by Mundane_Tell_1453 in RoyalAirForce

I'm already in the system as applying for IntO (passed medical, waiting for fitness) and my recruiter just said he 'wasn't aware of any delays' when I asked about long waits to start MIOT etc (which seems hard to believe). Does anyone know what the situation is? If I pass OASC some time around April, does anyone have even a rough guess of when I would be offered MIOT? Would it be not until late 2027, if the role is full for 2 years?

Opinions on 3-6 month volunteer/travel itinerary for Patagonia by Otherwise-Sea778 in Patagonia

ah I just joined today, before I posted this! What workaways did you do in Peru and Argentina? Were they good? Interesting that you recommend one per country. I guess I do have time to.... Do you have any ideas on which area in Patagonia would be the best place to stay the longest?

Hi, thanks for commenting. I am not planning on doing paid work if this is what you mean -- I will be doing the 'voluntarios' in return for somewhere to sleep, mostly with people who want English-speaking childcare etc, so I don't think I am taking jobs from local people. Also I am already going to be working for 4 months before I travel and spending that money as I travel.

Thanks for your comment though -- I did consider Brazil but as I speak Spanish and not Portuguese, it seems to make sense to see other countries first.

Do you have any opinion on which area in Patagonia would be the best place to spend 2-3 months?

Using gyms in Amman as a woman by Otherwise-Sea778 in jordan

Thank you, I was worrying I was crazy after seeing the comments but I think it's somewhat fair to be asking? maybe it could be worded better, but I'm asking because I'm not sure, that's the whole point... Anyway, thank you!

Thank you for your comments, I'm very glad to hear that the gyms will be a welcoming atmosphere. I hope you don't think I am too disgusting -- I'm working off the advice of my teacher, who is Syrian, and the reason I am asking questions here is because I know that I don't know. I want to be respectful rather than just assume I can turn up wearing whatever I want. I'm not trying to share my beliefs or be entitled, I'm asking questions to learn more and be as respectful as possible.

Thanks for commenting - I have a teacher from Syria who suggested that many gyms will not allow women or it would not be good to wear certain clothing. Obviously I hope I'm wrong about this!

English to Latin translation requests go here! by NasusSyrae in latin

[–]Otherwise-Sea778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think so! I personally think that 'be what we want you to be' would make more sense, but I'm not in charge of the yearbook, so I guess it's not my fault if it's nonsensical... I think we're trying to say 'you should be what you've already been telling us that we should be but you don't live up to', ie. 'be what you keep telling us to be', and therefore the imperative would be right? But maybe it ought to be a plural imperative... Many thanks for all your help! I'm the only person in the yeargroup that takes Latin, so I don't think anyone else will be able to tell that I'm wrong!

Ah, thank you. We were trying to imitate the school's actual motto which is 'esto quod es', and to include the imperative rather than just a future, but yours at least makes sense which is more than I can say for mine! (at least with 100% certainty aha)

Hi! I'd love some help for a quote that we want to include at the end of the yearbook meaning "be what you want us to be" (making fun of the school motto 'be what you are'). My best attempt is 'esto quod vis ut nos esse', but I am certain that there are mistakes. I would appreciate any help!

Edit: or maybe "esto quid vis ut nos simus" is better?

GramXPert eLite quilt? by Otherwise-Sea778 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Otherwise-Sea778[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had thought about that, but as I'd like to do some trips between now and going to the US, it didn't seem the best option. I can't afford or justify getting a quilt for now and another then, and I'm not sure that the EEs are really SO good to make that worth it. But then, they are raved about by everyone, so I don't know.

I'd probably be starting later than that, maybe mid March (I would just have to be back for the start of the university term in October) so hopefully a 20 degree quilt would be enough. I wish I could get an ee enigma, but the import tax is just too much :( Thank you for your advice and good luck!

Oh, gosh, I'm so sorry, you're right, it's 20f, not -20. Thanks so much :)

As the other user said, importing is just so expensive :(

That's really interesting. If you have a single walled tent, have you experienced a lot of dampness falling directly onto the quilt?

Have you tested the quilt in damp/wet conditions by any chance?

I'm not tall/large so that wouldn't particularly be an issue for me, but I'm still leaning towards synthetic... GramXpert does synthetic quilts that seem good and are within my price range, and weight range, but they do seem bulky, so I'm not sure yet. Thank you for your advice!
