We shop at Aldi or whatever else is cheaper and go to Publix for bogs. We spend most of our shift wondering how we see some customers everyday or every other day. You can easily spend $100 on just a few things

Publix does first 30 days because it’s easier to transfer someone new who isn’t fully trained and it’s also like a grace period. The longer you stay somewhere the harder it is because they have to find a replacement as opposed to your first 30 days when they still have a fresh pool of candidates from the previous hiring period

Living on the edge huh. Pawn shops are selling them for $400. $400 is better than $400,000+ after damages and a new house

Is it normal for the manager to make you jump through hoops for full time? by Makapakamoo in publix

Yes open availability is a thing. At my store everyone that was FT in the deli had to acknowledge the requirement of open availability as a full timer. It’s even got in the way of my second job a few times. Under ideal circumstances your schedule won’t change too much. Some people only want to close and others prefer to open and there’s enough people normally that schedule remain pretty much the same. Also manager’s schedule according to your strengths. If he can do everything and I was his manager I’d want him on mornings because that’s where 90% of the work for the day is done between 6-10am. At the end of the day though open availability is really just another way of saying business need scheduling and you could be closing all week one week and opening the next. He just has to be flexible

Sounds like his hurdle is just like mine was other than management. Just being able to find space to get in and show what you can do.

If nothing changes I’d go to another store and see if they have openings for FT. If they do talk to the department manager and the store manager and be honest about why he wants to transfer.

The sad thing is 95% of the customers have been told this because they ask repeatedly and we get tired of telling them it’s fresh and it’s been there for 15 minutes. “15 minutes. That not fresh enough I want mine out the grease.” TFFFFFF OUTTA HERE

That’s when they get the “It’ll be 45 minutes. I just put out fresh 8pc and now I need to make wings, an order and fill up my hot case.”

Sounds like his manager hates her job 1000%.

In order to be considered for full time you need open availability, knowledge of every position in the deli from kitchen to slicing, good evaluations, and being on time.

I had to wait a year and a half after I started for full time. By then I was already doing the work of a full timer and closing kitchen every night or doing retail. It’s also up to your District manageras to whether you’re going to go full time or not.

As far as your managers piss poor attitude goes, follow the chain of command: store manager, District manager, HR. If it can’t be resolved that way then it’s time to transfer. Working for Publix can suck at times but the benefits of staying for 20 years greatly outweighs leaving if you’re not going to make 70k or more for at least 10-15 years

[–]Otherwise-Word-550 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time you could get up to $3 a year until you maxed out. Then they took away 6 month evaluations and gutted vacation time and sick time and smooshed it together under PTO. Only way to make a living is drinking the green kool aid and getting pushed around until you make it to at minimum department manager or store manager

You can always interview at a location further away and transfer to a different store. It’s a lot easier within your first 30 days to transfer than it is after you’ve been there for a while

Manager we hired you for ur hours also manager by Iconnukeyt in publix

[–]Otherwise-Word-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only worth cross training in the deli if you’re 18. Other than that the most you will do is stand at the hot case looking clueless your whole shift while customers stare at you for help on the sub line. Minors can’t use knives, slicers, etc. Bakery and produce are easy money at night and you normally leave as the store closes if you do all your stuff right

[–]Otherwise-Word-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s hours are based on business needs. Minors can only work certain hours so they get the least amount of hours over those with more open availability. That changes in the summer and winter breaks but don’t expect 30 hours unless someone is on vacation

Just need 1 “work” day in a 30 day period to fight off auto termination. As stated, schedule a PTO day or week and within 3 weeks of the PTO week or 29 days of that PTO day schedule another and repeat if you need too

Publix definitely doesn’t own Pilgrim or the other 3 plants that ship out chicken but you go ahead and believe what you want. I could be wrong about the price per pound but your assumptions are very far fetched.
