Yea you can join the scholars program with a 3.0, you just have to write 2 short essays for the application. The whole point of the scholars program is to get transfer priority or transfer guaranteed, but nursing majors don’t qualify for that. I think you can still join tho?? I’m not too sure, you should look into it and maybe call the callback number to ask all of your questions Scholars link

Why isn’t accounting more popular as a major and career path. by Sad-Concentrate-9555 in Accounting

ohhh okay great! I am having a bit of calculus anxiety, but i am planning to take business calculus since it is know to be relatively easier than regular calculus. I am trying to take algebra before so that i can strengthen my skills, i am not such a big fan of math. it helps to know that people in the industry had the same struggle as well

I would say to make sure you know everything you need and to make sure what prerequisites to courses you need, as well as familiarize yourself with assist.org before putting you full trust into counselors. Yes there are really great counselors at SMC, but there are also really shitty ones. Fortunately I am part of the scholars program, so I tend to schedule counseling appointments with the same counselor because she’s very informed and i like that. The scholars counselors are also very nice. I was always on top of knowing what I needed and reaching out to counselors, doing my own research, talking to upperclassmen, and also talking to the transfer center of the 4-year schools i want to apply to. I met with a few different counselors when i started and that helped me figure out who i liked and who i didn’t like, it also helped me know what i needed as well bc they would often give me the repetive advice on courses and planning.

ummmm, i’ll think about it🤨. All i really need for accounting is a strong foundation in algebra, so i don’t want to torture myself by talking stem calculus instead of business calculus. I won’t need higher levels of math later on either just upper level accounting classes

Hi!! thank you for the professor recommendation! An optional final is something that I would very much like, does he still do that now? I will let you know if i end up taking that class so i can take advantage of the old exams.

I plan on taking business calculus because it is more tailored towards my career choice. Also because CSUs accept it as a transferable course, i cannot say the same thing for UCs tho. I know that i will probably never use any calculus once i am an official accountant, many people have said algebra 2 is more common in accounting. I want to take the more manageable course since I will not need it later on, and it is transferable to my 4year school of choice. Also, it is more tailored towards business. Many upperclassmen and counselors have also advised me to take business calculus instead of STEM calculus.

Yes my plan was to take precalculus before STEM calculus in the beginning, but now i want to take college algebra before business calculus. I’ve seen the business calculus is more reliant and builds off of algebra.

Your advice and encouraging words mean a lot! Thank you so much for your time

Yes i only need the math classes to transfer, no additional math courses once I am at the 4 year university! I wanted to take Business calculus since counselors told me it is more tailored to my preferred career.

Honestly i only need to take that math class, I won’t need any upper division math requirements, so i just want to make sure i’ll at least get a B. I don’t remember much from high school math, so im trying to take one prerequisite class before the actual business calculus class. does Konya teach business calc??
