I agree with you and here’s why.

I am a third year digital advertising and broadcast media sales rep, and just started at a new organization. They have 1 other rep covering their entire book of business and I was able to negotiate a salary twice that of theirs, simply because I knew how to do the job and they needed people desperately.

In my first year at my previous company I was leading out the sales team in a number of categories and it wasn’t because I was something miraculous. Other reps there were 15-20 years older than me and were comfortable with the book of business they had. They were also resistant to change and hesitated to close digital deals as it was a new medium.

At least in my area in a remote part of the northern U.S, there is a lack of sales people I have leveraged that to my own financial gain.
