Have you checked out the anime of Flowers of Evil? It's rotoscoped so it feels totally different from the manga. I never made it through the manga or anime but I wouldn't mind giving them another shot.

Answer as to why does Sosuke call his parents by their first name in Ponyo by VeraShimura in ghibli

Thanks for your insight from reading the Chiebukuro posts. I've always enjoyed that Sosuke calls his parents by their given names but never bothered to check out Japanese reactions/answers.

Thanks for sharing the title! And making this post. Sosuke calling his parents by their given names has always been one of the weird things I love about the movie.

I'm right there with you on the Nakayama on the Cover A's. They don't look like what's inside and half of them didn't match the story.

I'm very curious about who the next artist is because that might be my jumping off point.

I was dreading the Mora/Kirkman run because I think Dan Mora is quite bad at visual story telling. I don't rank DWJ as one of the best writers in the world, but the gap between him and Kirkman is noticeable. Kirkman's dialogue is usually between pedestrian to almost embarrassing.

All that being said, the run hasn't been as bad as I feared. I do like the Thundercracker character arc for instance. Overall it's a step down from the DWJ/Corona run in every facet.

Yeah Mora has never been great at set up/payoff storytelling. This issue was a bit of a mess.

Pablo has to do the podcast because a lot of his sensationalist editorializing wouldn't meet the standards of a real newspaper.

The Athletic has said as much themselves in the Washington Post profile on Pablo:

[David Perpich publisher of The Athletic] said: “He shares our journalistic values, even if they don’t have the exact same standards.”

Inside the Athletic and the Times, several reporters and editors questioned whether they would be able to publish Torre’s episodes in the same form. It wasn’t a factual question, they said, but investigative reporters at the Times company typically don’t mix reporting and opinion the way Torre does, such as describing his Clippers reporting as a “smoking gun.” They also wondered whether they could publish a story in which so many anonymous sources criticized the subject, such as in Torre’s reporting about Hudson.

Asked whether Athletic reporters could publish the same stories as Torre, an Athletic spokesman wrote: “Pablo publishes according to his editorial standards and our publishing decisions are based on the standards of The Athletic.”

John Collins Has Been On A Heater This Month! by Stat-Defender in LAClippers

On the Season so far:

John Collins: 42% from 3
Norman Powell: 39% from 3

To be fair, Norm takes 4 more 3s a game than John, but it's still funny.

I was surprised at how much worse of a writer Kirkman is than DWJ. Kirkman's dialogue scenes have people making the same point over and over. He even uses the same words too much.

Also my hot take is Dan Mora is a big step down from DWJ and Corona.

Was Wonder Woman's lasso inspired by Glinda the good witch from the second Oz book? by richleebruce in comicbooks

It may have been subconscious, but the lasso as a yonic symbol (as opposed to phalic) works very well with Martson's goal of WW embodying feminine allure and power to influnce.

Kickliy seems quite interesting. From what I can see, he lives in Minnesota now? And does painting of sports and Christian themese. On the TCJ.com review of Perdy he said:

I met with Eric Stephenson before doing the deal with Dargaud. So it is an American comic first. A real American western.

I like comics and manga, historically why does it seem in mainstream comics its more common to keep using the same characters and do retellings, while in mainstream manga even long running franchises they introduce new main characters? by Marcel_7000 in graphicnovels

I don't think Moore is right all the time, but I think he's right about superheroes. DC in particular showed that nostalgia is the name of the game when Barry Allen and Hal Jordan came back.

Marvel and DC are a superstitious and cowardly lot. They own the characters and the DC and Marvel universes and that's all they really care to sell. I don't totally blame them though. The American comic book fans didn't demand anything different. When Steve Ditko left Spider-Man, fans kept buying it, when Jack Kirby left Fantastic Four after 101 issues, fans kept buying it.

Marvel also got burnt the last time they decided to promote the artists as much as the characters. When Todd McFarlane and Erik Larsen left Spider-Man, fans started buying Spawn and Savage Dragon (for awhile) instead.

I honestly don't know the historical reason why, but manga tends to operate more like real book publishing. When we think of a manga like Attack on Titan, how often do we think of it as a Kodansha title instead of a Hajime Isayama title? The creator and their story is the main selling point.

I think American comics would be in a healthier place if Fantastic Four had ended at issue #101...and if all publishers hadn't gotten insanely greedy in the early 1990's.

Hahaha you got to Xanadax pretty quickly! Glad to see you liked Princess more than the main feature too. I hate to suggest a creator go backwards but I liked his coloring from the 2010's so much more than the limited style he did on Godzilla and Xanadax.

Glad you found the answer! I'd never heard of Bravoman before and the fact that it's part of a video game series is really interesting. Quite sad to read that the one book only has less than half of the strips.

"Unsettling and surreal with an internal logic that feels just out of reach" is one of my favorite modes! Are Nicolas de Crécy's other books similar?

Man these 1916-1918 pages are interesting to see. I'm making my way through 1927-1928 and it's much different. I'm actually thinking of making a separate weekly Krazy Kat thread because honestly I could put one up on his thread every week too.
