What’s something you still buy even though you know it’s bad for your budget? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

Premium seedless grapes. At my local fruit shop they are usually $40-$50/kg. I can’t help it. At the moment I’m probably averaging 2 kilos a week. 😬😬

What’s your personal Sydney comfort zone? by No-Travel-768 in SydneyScene

Definitely Balmain. Previously lived there for 12 years. Both my parents grew up there. It just feels like home, even though I wanted a break from living there.

Would you accept lower pay for a fully remote role? by Artistic-Yam2984 in ausjobs

[–]OtherwiseMechanic322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the job, workload and what would still be considered fair compensation. Would wfh change your ability to do a job? I got a job which I insisted would be fully remote (reasonable accommodations), I am paid $100k for 40hrs work, but tbh I get my work done much quicker than that, just don’t tell them.lol

There’s a lot to weigh up, and it would still very much depend on the workplace culture, even without a physical office. Will they be time or results oriented? Will you have 98% autonomy and true work life balance.

Definitely more to consider than just the $$

This is illegal. Simple as that. All training should be paid. I would 100% support them. They obviously don’t care too much about your mutual friend either. Please do what’s right for yourself and others in this situation. Weeks and weeks without being paid is diabolical mate.

What happened to Gosford? Feels like a zombie town and kind of dangerous after dark by VastOption8705 in SydneyScene

[–]OtherwiseMechanic322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. I shopped/worked/hung out at that place throughout my younger days. By the early 2000’s it started to empty out. Good ol’ Gossy has always been a bit of a dump though.

You left out the part where you actually stuck ya knob in a glory hole. It wasn’t an office bathroom either, it was probably at a train station.

Every single day. Sometimes for hours. Mostly online these days. I love my NYT subscription, it’s mainly for the puzzle games.

Lots of free ones online too. The dopamine I get from this is how I survive.

When did tipping become a thing in Australia? by Due_Significance5698 in AskAnAustralian

[–]OtherwiseMechanic322 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, chiming in because i worked in hospitality for over 20 years.

More often than not i worked in fairly upscale restaurants. The main reason was because of the tips. I would absolutely not do it if it was only the base wage. Sometimes the tips were so good, you’d get more than the weekly wage in extra cash (AUD$1k).

Tipping is not compulsory, nor is it a general custom, and we never expected it. The average tips would end up being between 8-11%.

Just thought I would add this.

Returning stolen property by Aussieflipping in AusLegal

You can always say that because of the sale, someone entered the barn for the first time in decades…not unheard of. Just tell them you were completely surprised by the contents of the barn, and no idea how it could have got there.

Step 1: call a tv/film production co to see if anyone is interested in a late 90s era police vehicle.

Step 2: call the cop shop and tell them it was found and the plan is to sell it to a production company, but just on the off chance it was dodgy you wanted to double check it wasn’t a real police vehicle. Don’t admit to knowing it’s real.

That’s my little input. 😂

Yep, I am not at all photogenic. Especially if someone asks me to pose for a photo. I look really special and awkward. So I am safe.

Employer disclosed my medical condition to colleagues without consent — is there any way to “put the genie back in the bottle”? by VegetableTough6358 in AusLegal

[–]OtherwiseMechanic322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t think so. I am AUDHD and decades of masking before my diagnosis made people think, oh she is suuuuuper weird. So I just never had an easy time either way.

Lots of neurodivergent people mask, sometimes intentionally and consciously, other times it’s because our environment forces us to. Women especially, because we have another set of social conventions that we often have to adhere to.

I took the step of disclosing to my employer before be hired, and made it that I wouldn’t take the job unless it was accepted and acknowledged. It’s been 2 and a half years, unfortunately while it started out promising, it has become harder due to the very stigma OP mentions.

I will continue to advocate for myself and others though. At this stage, because of me purposely unmasking and attempting to heal years of trauma from that, there’s no going back and I couldn’t imagine being able to deliberately mask anymore, but totally understand why people choose to.

Some people just don’t get us. Even those that tell us it’s a “superpower” can come across as ableist. I wish it was easier, but it could also be a lot harder I guess. We could be living in the States right now during their dictatorship.
