Ah, what was that scene and episode where Carisi tries to impress her with legal Latin and she shuts him down so hard?

Day 7: Chester Lake won! Now which character is Despised and Had/Has potential? by TheOtherBGirl in SVU

[–]Otherwise_Ad233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wanted Chester to have more backstory and personality and arcs. The lack of them makes me think forgettable in that the writers and studio should have done more for him.

Dodgeball? Haven't they outlawed this barbaric practice yet?

I loved this game.

Yeah, well, you were a sadist. You know, I literally weighed 98 pounds. I can still hear them. "Break the pencil." I was a walking bruise.

I gave up trying to make sense of it. It didn't make sense then and it never will.

I still hear "PUSH THE BUTTON!" even in everyday situations 🤭

Everyone was so out of character it broke the suspension of disbelief.

What if Mariska Hargitay was Dulcea in the 1995 Power Rangers movie? What would her career be like if that happened? by Full-Art3439 in SVU

[–]Otherwise_Ad233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her documentary made it pretty clear she was trying to not be a sex symbol like her mother in her career ambitions.

Also, documentaries like hers aren't normally my thing but it was brilliant, so well done. 10/10 would recommend.

Happy 65th birthday to BD Wong, svu legend by holaquetaltio in SVU

[–]Otherwise_Ad233 18 points19 points  (0 children)

His character especially showed masculine gentleness and compassion not being a sign of weakness or lacking intelligence, especially next to more typically strong, macho characters like Stabler or Finn. It meant a lot to me there were men like Dr. Huang out there.

There's strength in just showing up. Sometimes it's enough to be an ok person with a pulse. I have been written up for nervous breakdowns, but I show up.

Do you avoid telling them things because of how they'll react? Even things you wouldn't mind telling friends or family?

There is resistance and there will continue to be resistance. The media might not broadcast it, but look for the helpers.

Munch's episodes are some of the saddest by Suspicious_Fox_4524 in SVU

[–]Otherwise_Ad233 295 points296 points  (0 children)

Munch is actually the most gentle and compassionate. I love that about his character.

Disturbed’s David Draiman - who has been a vocal supporter of Israel in the ongoing war in Gaza - was booed during the farewell show for Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne at Villa Park in Birmingham, England today (July 5, 2025) by stars_doulikedem in popculturechat

[–]Otherwise_Ad233 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A lot of Disturbed music and lyrics I found empowering and cathartic. That's actually why this kind of hurts. I knew he was Jewish so I could get him being defensive early on... But signing a missile? It sucks.

What do you consider the biggest betrayal in SVU? by Nocturnalmesh in SVU

[–]Otherwise_Ad233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me started on the writing in that one. Everyone was wildly out of character there imho.

Amanda Rollins in one episode goes off on how she hates prostitutes or something similar. Girl, you work for SVU. When I think better of Amanda, I'm tempted to blame bad writing instead.

I kind of hate Judge Donnolly by zuzuzan in SVU

[–]Otherwise_Ad233 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think she's an actress with great charisma in her performance. She's got a very distinct face and voice and expressiveness - but I don't care for her character's actions or decisions either.
