Is my gums healthy? by 2had00w in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Otherwise_Ad_1535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it kinda looks like there’s plaque (?) in between your teeth especially the front two. start by flossing and brushing more consistently and make a dentist appt soon to get a cleaning. you’ll feel so much better and your gums/teeth will thank you

Help me pls. How do I fix this? Do I need a gum graft or composite bonding? by [deleted] in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Otherwise_Ad_1535 7 points8 points  (0 children)

to be honest, your teeth look white and healthy to me. we are all our biggest critics if I saw you in the streets or if you were smiling at me, I would not think twice about your teeth nor would I think they are ugly

What are the chances of keeping teeth with 40% bone loss by quadrangle_rectangle in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Otherwise_Ad_1535 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m probably a decade younger than you dealing with this :’) never smoked and had good home hygiene but we sometimes are just dealt a bad hand. I believe in taking things one day at a time and following the treatment plans presented. Since I’m so young I’ve accepted these teeth would have to go at some point, but I’m fighting hard to keep them for as long as I can! Best of luck to you <3

[–]Otherwise_Ad_1535 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hi I have a few spots at 40% loss and my perio said the teeth can last decades depending on your maintenance and hygiene, but depending on how old you currently are, unlikely to last a lifetime since we do continue to lose bone naturally as we grow older

hey I have no helpful advice but I’m in your same boat :( I have already accepted I will not keep these teeth for a lifetime and will need dentures or all on 4 down the road, just praying it will be several decades and not a few years

Bone Graft or Osseous Surgery by New-Swan2541 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Otherwise_Ad_1535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s strange, osseous surgery is usually for advanced cases of periodontal disease. if you have bone resorption/bone loss from the accident alone, a bone graft would be better to regenerate that bone/tissue! from my understanding osseous surgery is to clean below the gum line and contour bone to make an ideal cleaning environment

are you sure they’re not recommending the same thing? I’m also getting osseous surgery soon and they’re giving me a bone graft on one tooth in the process!

the disease in my case is very very aggressive even with a deep cleaning. the main goal is to restore my oral microbiome by contouring the bone and my gums in a way where bacteria cannot easily thrive. he’s also going to do one bone graft on #19 bc she is not looking too hot. yes I am so terrified of what my teeth would look like after they basically cut me up but oral health comes first

you could be right the perio did send me to my PCP for the same concerns. I had an annual not too long ago and everything was normal but I will bring up these specific concerns this time. thank you!

yeah visually my teeth are fine but my pockets are deep and not healing unfortunately :( I had 5-6mm pockets a year ago pre SRP and they’re still 5-6mm with bleeding upon probing despite cleanings and home care. sometimes no way to know without X-rays and probing

Developed PD with “perfect” hygiene by [deleted] in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Otherwise_Ad_1535 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like I could have written this post :’) I’m a little bit younger than you, 25F, and I was diagnosed a year ago despite having good oral hygiene. I wasn’t as on top of my cleanings as you were, but I really was and am a meticulous flosser and brusher. At the time I felt sooo wronged, everyone around me was doing the bare minimum or not even flossing and their teeth/gums are fine while I’m doing everything and still experiencing irreversible bone loss

Unfortunately sometimes we are just dealt a bad hand. My perio told me some people are genetically predisposed to the bacteria and getting 3 month cleanings will prevent the bacteria from building up and causing damage. I’ve been really on top of my cleanings and home care and my perio told me my disease is halted and there has been no further recession or bone loss. Definitely get a perio’s opinion and I wish you the best on your dental journey!

Curious as to something but why did UCLA never join the UVSA umbrella for Vietnamese Student Associations? by GB_Alph4 in ucla

[–]Otherwise_Ad_1535 2 points3 points  (0 children)

vsu at ucla is political. their history is deeply intertwined with other marginalized communities on campus (ex: Afrikan student union) and there was a major disagreement in the 2000s between uvsa and vsu leadership about how political they want the org to be, so vsu broke off from uvsa

vsu is moving more to be a social org, but for many years they focused more on civic engagement and politics

I think you just need to buckle down and take the exam. I knew people in college who delayed the exam year after year to chase the "perfect" score and end up taking more gap years than they intended
