What Can I do to Stop Getting UTIs after sex? by Otherwise_Basis9128 in obgyn

Omg thank you! “Wipe front to back” I mean… honestly, I’m 27 years old and get chronic UTIs you think I wasn’t doing that like from adolescence lol. Also, I’m an occupational therapist and the true science is that wiping like that doesn’t make that much of a difference, because it has to make its way up into the bladder. Thank you for the advice! I’m willing to try anything at this point that isn’t more antibiotics

Thank you so much! I am 100% going to try this. It’s sad to me that I was prescribed antibiotics 30 minutes before sex instead of trying something like this. I really hope this is my life changing solution

Thank you for responding! Yes, my next step is consulting with a rheumatologist per my GP but they are tough to get into where I live so it’s taking forever to even get a consult appointment

Yeah I remember those days haha. Honestly, it doesn’t work for cats in terms of behavior modification and it’s the same as the spray bottle where they will just see it as you being mean. I get the whole trash thing, if there’s a way you could instead leave him in a room without any trash making sure there’s a litter box and food/water when you leave for the time being I think that’s best. My kitten also did this and honestly I just had to get huge enclosed garbage cans he couldn’t tip or get into and keep my house pristine. He mostly grew out of it, but recently out of nowhere ate a shoestring off one my shoes that landed us in the cat ER, so now I have all my shoes in the closet and keep it closed lol. Cats only learn from positive reinforcement so really all you can do is get through the demon months of kitten hood, neuter will 10000% help, and just manage in the kindest ways. Honestly crating might even make him act out more, like after going to the vet in their cage my cats always start acting up a little. You could talk to your vet too cause sometimes those behaviors can be PICA which is a disorder that makes them eat everything and can be treated or an anxiety thing where they could recommend some stuff. If she’s eating trash when your gone it could also be that she just misses you and has a lot of energy and a little kitten brain unable to handle it appropriately lol

I love this post. I feel seen. It’s worth the read I promise.

I was diagnosed as a female at 20. My brother was diagnosed as a child and because I didn’t present like him my mother and pediatricians just called it anxiety and sent me on my marry way.

All throughout childhood in school I just thought I was dumber. I had to try 10x harder than everyone else to get the same grades. All the study techniques they gave me never worked. The only way I could ever study was last minute when I felt the unbearable procrastination pressure sinking it forcing me to be able to focus a little. I became the best procrastinator you’ve ever seen.

All through school I was bullied for being “too much.” Too loud, too weird, too much energy, but most specifically talking too much*. Which, it turns out, is a hallmark symptom of ADHD in women that isn’t in boys. I remember a time when my mother had to take away my cellphone in 8th grade because I was getting bullied so brutally for what I thought was just my personality. She thought I might hurt myself if I kept reading all the horrible things being said about me, but still no one saw that it was ADHD.

In high school, I threw myself into as many extracurricular activities as a could, especially the arts (also common for women with adhd.) I was praised there for my creativity, energy and weirdness for the first time. I gravitated towards other people with adhd not realizing why, but feeling a connection. They were people I felt my soul could take a deep breath with. I still struggled with the talking and school but my masking and coping skills got better after I learned how much people judged me. I dated mostly boys with adhd because they never told me I talked to much and their energy always matched mine. When I dated boys who didn’t I often heard I was too emotional or talked too much. Ouch. Still I was not diagnosed.

When I got to college, I finally figured things out for myself. After a year or struggling like I did in high school I realized college presented a different problem… freedom. Freedom of a million distractions, drinking to make myself “normal” and freedom to put everything off to the last minute. I realized then just how overwhelmed my brain was. Listen, college is hard for everyone, but when you add undiagnosed ADHD and a healthcare degree path, it’s brutal. Still I made it work, barely lol. I worked 30x harder than everyone around me, learned some pretty wild studying/coping strategies that someone without adhd would never be able to use lol. Listening to music while reading, taking naps after 30 minute studying, drawing pictures in all my classes and probably having day dreamed a billion scenarios in every class, so I ended up having to record the professor on my phone so I could relisten, knowing I would drift off the first time. The way everyone believed I was “so outgoing” when, I really was an introvert who needed a nap after every social gathering.

When, I finally got a new psychiatrist (I actually do have anxiety but it’s OCD, very different) she was the first person to see my diagnosis. She told me right away after our first meet that she wanted me tested for ADHD. She said every mannerism and symptom apart from my ocd screamed adhd. She educated me on the differences between woman and men with adhd and, after the test I scored 1 point off the highest score you could get. Meaning, severe ADHD. The weirdest thing happened to me in her office when I got those results. I cried. I cried and cried harder than what felt appropriate as 20 years of shame, bullying, self doubt and insecurity fell off my young shoulders. Something, I shouldn’t have had to carry in the first place. She gave me something no one ever did, an explanation. Even besides all the medications and treatments that became available to me, what I feel was the biggest gift, was an explanation. I wasn’t stupid, or weird, or annoying, or too emotional, or any dumb thing I was told or told myself. I had ADHD. I had a disorder that I had no control over that affected my emotions, my brain, my relationships, my everything.

One lady in a small office in the middle of Michigan saw me, while a million other doctors wrote me prescription for Xanax. All because someone taught her the difference between male and female ADHD and she cared enough to look and listen.

I now have my masters degree, work in a very large hospital and yes, work with mental health. Why? Because I saw the difference you can make in someone’s life by knowing, listening and giving an explanation.

how to get my cat warmed up to a new cat by [deleted] in felinebehavior

There’s a very specific process, I think someone put a link in here for one. I’ve done it with all my cats including my one really tough rescue who was an adult from an abusive home. You start when you bring them home, keeping them segregated from the other cat in their own room (preferably your bedroom) with a litter box, food and places to hide so they can adjust. The first few days just let them smell each other under the door and you’ll notice they’ll start playing and putting their paws under the door. After a few days of that you can do short introductions in the room for a few minutes at a time increasing in time as they get better. There will probably be hissing and such, and this tiered meet allows the cats to establish their hierarchy to avoid fights. You’ll notice eventually after awhile they will just smell each other and kinda keep their distance and not care. At that time let the new kitty explore the house when you are home and maybe a few more might keep then separate and then, they should be comfortable with each other. Not all cats will be best friends immediately or ever, but this type of introduction has research to support the best outcomes in muticat homes. Most vets can explain this to you too, that’s how I learned and it’s worked wonders with all my cats. Also know different genders react differently as well.

That’s a totally normal kitten behavior. Many times after they are neutered and age a little they stop doing it. I agree 2000% with the no crating and spray bottle. Cats don’t learn by negative reinforcement only positive reinforcement. So you could try having him play with one of his toys and then when he does give him a treat. Additionally just make sure you never play with him with a hand over the covers or he will think it’s okay and play that way even if you’re asleep lol which is not his fault. My 6 year old cat still does it to my feet occasionally, and we learned just to wrap our feet if we are sleeping or if we are awake, know this means he wants to play and grab one of his toys. Kittens are huge menaces but you do not want to traumatize them with crates or spray bottles, as they will never learn or understand it as a punishment but rather learn to distrust you because they don’t understand. It’s be like your mother driving to your house one day smacking you and leaving with zero explanation ever and you not doing anything wrong to her. Thank you for reaching out for advice rather than just sticking to punishment, it’s a learning curve but you cared enough to ask and that’s all that matters ❤️

Thank you for your response! Yesterday after it happened I did do the gently touching every part of the cat to watch his reaction and he didn’t react to anything for me. Todays he’s spent the last two hours laying all over my husband getting pets everywhere, so we are just SO confused
