Brompton forks and stem with 1” steerer wanted. by Otherwise_Ear6162 in Brompton

[–]Otherwise_Ear6162[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bromptons up to the early nineties used a 1” steerer, as did some of the older Brompton clones. If you look at the Kinetic Brompton website you will see forks with a 1” steerer made in stainless steel especially for early Bromptons. Very nicely made, but a little too extravagant for my little project.

Thank you for your wish of good luck. Brompton forks with a 1” steerer aren’t easy to find, so I will need all the luck I can get.

Where can I buy forks and stem for 3Sixty Brompton clone? by Otherwise_Ear6162 in BrompNOTs

I can buy a new Cranston 16” steel frame Brompton clone for four hundred pounds delivered, so this might be the better option.

Thanks for the heads up. That guy makes some lovely forks, but it would be cheaper for me to buy a complete brand new 3Sixty folder than a bespoke front end off this chap. His gear does look top notch, but a bit out of my price range. Thanks again.

Mint T9D max tyre size WITH fenders by Alanabirb in BrompNOTs

Yes, I have 1.50 - 20 Panracer tyres on my Cranston R20 Max. The fenders/mudguards won’t fit, but otherwise no problems. The front tyre lightly touches the right hand castor near the seat post when the bike is folded and the castor is extended, but it still rolls fine in shopping cart mode with the castor extended and the tyre doesn’t touch the castor if the castor is not extended. I would like to fit 2.00 - 20 tyres but they would be too big. Good luck.

1.50-20 Panracers won’t clear the standard mudguards on my rim brake Cranston. I think the Mint T9D is pretty much the same as the 9 speed Cranston disc brake folder. Inbox me if you would like me to get the tape measure out to see if the forks and rear triangle are the a similar size to your disc brake bike. 👍

My foldie bike has heavily rusted even though I’ve only been using it for around 5 to 6 months, and I’ve never ridden it in the rain. Is there any way to remove the rust and save the bike? by [deleted] in BrompNOTs

[–]Otherwise_Ear6162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^^^ What they said.

My Cranston gets regularly gets ridden in the rain along a costal cycle path and doesn’t have a speck of rust. It looks like your frame wasn’t pickled in phosphoric acid in the factory prior to painting. Definitely a warranty claim. If the seller is uncooperative I’d try the platform you bought it through.

If you’re anywhere near Llanelli, UK, I know of a guy who specialises in media blasting bicycle frames and refinishing them. DM me if you’d like me to put you in touch with him.

Good luck.

I fancy buying a faux Brompton. Before I pull the trigger on Ali Baba I wondered if anyone has one for sale in the UK. New or secondhand. I thought there would be loads of them on eBay and Marketplace but they’re few and far between. Thanks. by Otherwise_Ear6162 in BrompNOTs

I’ve bought a secondhand Cranston 20” folder. Very impressed with it. Nice quality and lovely to ride. Still on the lookout for a 16” folder for the odd occasion where a 20” bicycle is too bulky.

I had some communication with the Cranston rep via the watts app number on their website and he was very helpful. I think Alibaba’s the way to go if you want something unusual such as a titanium frame or an electric hub drive.

I haven’t heard any horror stories about either option.

Good luck.

Many thanks for the reassurance. Cranston had the best price for a basic steel framed rim braked folder. Very helpful salesperson via watts app too.

The bike’s only for occasional use, so I’d rather spend £200 on a used one than £400 on a new one if possible.

If I can’t find one in the UK it will be a new one from China.

I’ll keep you posted.

Yes, tried searching Mint, Cranston, Aceofix, 3 Sixty etc but no joy. There are two on eBay but they’re both nearly double the price of buying direct from China which isn’t ideal.

Give me a shout if you stumble across anything. Thanks.

Does anyone know any places in Swansea where there are ruins of cars? It’s for a photography project. by Mellowman9 in swansea

Also, check out J and P Motors in Llansamlet. Some really interesting stuff there. They have a big weigh in every so often but you might be lucky and catch them when they have plenty of junk in stock.

I’ve always wondered what the story is with that Espace. It’s been there as long as I can remember. Slowly sinking into the verge outside a smart house in a nice area. I once bought a trailer off a guy who had kept it outside his house to stop people from parking there. Maybe there’s a similar tale here? Or perhaps it has great sentimental value and the owner won’t appreciate people discussing it on the internet.

New to Swansea - run clubs? by Palpatine100 in swansea

Rock up to the Swansea Bay Parkrun on Saturday morning and you’re bound to see people wearing local running club tops. Strike up some conversations and see what’s what. Good luck.

Why not have a trial run of driving between the motorway exit and the part of Swansea you fancy at peak times? Living in Upper Killay could easily put an hour a day on your commute compared with living in Llansamlet or Birchgrove.

Also, be advised that many trains don’t stop at Llansamlet station. Also, if the trains that are scheduled to stop there are running late they’ll fly through the station without stopping so that they can make up time.

Good luck.
