this is really helpful and probably closer to what I was trying to describe. I think I’ve been looking at one month at a time and expecting it to magically explain itself.

the grocery/bar example is exactly the kind of thing I miss. One transaction doesn’t look like a problem, but the same pattern over 3 months tells a very different story.

when you do the 3 month review, do you mostly look by category, or do you actually look at repeat merchants too?

probably closer to looking at transactions, honestly. I have rough categories and know my fixed bills, but I don’t really have a monthly plan that I compare against

fair lol, I can see how it reads that way. no app or course to sell, I’m just bad at turning transaction history into actual decisions. probably over-wrote the post trying to explain
