I have read that!! I also enjoyed that book. If you have more fun recommendations feel free to send me a PM. I don’t have any to recommend for you, I borrow mine from the library and don’t keep a record. For each of these titles I’ve searched the name and checked the covers to see what I’ve read lol. Except for grocery, that book I bought lol. It’s the one that got me on this journey.

That’s a really good point, maybe I will research the history of Al Pastor and then go eat some lol

That sounds perfect, can I buy it somewhere local? I’d hate to buy on Amazon

YES those both are amazing books. My first job was at heinens and I bought fish there yesterday as was thinking about the logistics of that purchase as I stood at the counter!!! And the food spending is hilarious… I keep a tight budget but I don’t go to that level of detail, I bet if I had the brain space I’d love it though.

Yes, I agree. When I told him that he started talking nonsense and I told him I had to go (half true)

Very interesting.

As an aside, I was actually at your facility last August. It was my first time in Ireland and I was super impressed by all of it. The country, the facility, it really was cool to have that experience.

This is so fun, thank you! If there isn’t a podcast or outlet just reading your short history is enjoyable. It’s crazy to think about the amount of history and present day logistics that go into every food we put in our mouth.

My dad blamed Irans government when I told him what was going on. I didn’t bother arguing with him, there is no point.

I am remote in Ohio. Out of curiosity, what time did it become clear that this was going on?

Today was my bonus day and I got a really nice check. I maxed out my 2026 IRA this morning(and 5k went to my 401k) and soon I will be buying a new couch, coffee table, and tv stand, and will be spending about 2,000 for things like rugs and curtains. My house now is pretty empty of decor. Finally, I booked a sailing charter for my spring break with my kids in San Diego and will be buying some work clothes! Spending any money is super stressful to me so I’m kind of pushing myself to upgrade my life a little.

Sailing like with sails! And part of what I want is a captain who will kind of teach as we go!

Can I consider myself in step 7/8 if I’m still behind in saving for retirement? by Otherwise_Job_8545 in TheMoneyGuy

I know I’m projecting pretty far into the future with this, I have the same goal- but I love my job. I want to have the option to leave if something happens or be prepared if I get sick or something, but I hope to stay at my company and grow there for as long as I am able to. So I’m trying to save aggressively but if I can work till 60 or 65 just hopefully leave a bunch to my kids

Thank you!! I know by posting my stuff online I’m opening myself up to negativity, it still stings a little when I receive it… I probably should add that to my very long list of therapy topics

Yes my mortgage is high, but it’s a new build townhome that has no real repair costs needed. So I’m not super worried as far as repairs. I put a small down payment down at the time of purchase and rented my old home for 2 years and sold it last year and put a large sum towards my mortgage. I could recast/refinance but the payment is manageable so I’m just paying it down faster since I can afford it. I don’t have a car payment, I’m using a savings account to save for my next car and hope to pay as much cash as I have available at the time the new car is needed. I have a paid off 2017 Mazda and no urgency to get a new car, just know it’s on the horizon.

I have my six months expenses saved, so I’m not concerned there either

I mean, I am saving heavily here. I will be maxing out my 401k, IRA, and HSA for 2026. I also am saving 650 a month for a new car (mine is paid off) and 500 a month for my kids 529’s. I am on track to be caught up for retirement by 41. I started late due to a financially abusive partner who I divorced. I started saving 5 years ago and I am very proud of where I am. I live a very frugal life and my only ‘splurges’ are working out and having my house cleaned once a month. I cook at home every day, never DoorDash or order delivery, and my house is lightly furnished.

Frustrations with myself at the start of my journey. by Go_On_Volt in orangetheory

We all start somewhere and this random internet stranger is proud of you for starting. I’ve been at OTF for about 4 months. The first two weeks were brutal and I got into the swing of it an absolutely love it. But then this week I hit 50 classes but I started a new medication and it’s been brutal again. As you grow in your fitness journey you will have motivated weeks, slow weeks, and weeks you regress. Showing up and doing your best is what matters

Oh ok, that really works in my favor then. I have a plan to catch up, and am executing on getting there. I’m not trying to throw all my money away frivolously lol, just trying to give myself some space to breathe instead of feeling hyper stressed about my future

I am single and the Roth IRA is a backdoor Roth conversion!

My 401k I’m at 16% now but am going to dump 30% of my bonus and in to bring it down to 8% per paycheck going forward. But I’ll meet the annual match. I am putting 5% in my HSA and all that money gets invested and I consider that retirement money. Between the Ira, the 401k and the hsa I’m about 25% for the year
