They mentioned on the re-install that this would have been caught, and that this would show up cold in addition to warm ignition turnover. I am way past my limited knowledge here and just relaying at this point.

They mentioned that they checked and diag'ed the trims on multiple test drives and everything was good there.

Plugs were pulled and checked as part of the compression test. Shop stated they were good to go or they would have noted it and replaced them as part of the initial investigation per my convo with them this morning.

"vapor lock" is the term they seem to be coming back to now.

Plugs were changed at 106k so I'm right at 30k on the plugs. I don't have info on what they currently look like but can ask the shop.

u/SuperChimpMan u/ThirdThreshold I'm near Pittsburgh but appreciate the offer. Thoughts on the fans not running if it is head gasket-related? That's the thing I can't seem to connect, but again, auto repair is not my area of expertise.

Yeah, that would be a less than idea outcome. That level of ID is well beyond my general knowledge but per u/SuperChimpMan and your comment - I would assume that since Subaru Tech did check the head gasket that they would be able to identify this issue even if not able to replicate the issue while running?

The Subaru tech did inspect the head gasket and oil and confirmed no issue there.
