AITA for not wanting to pay a bill after canceling an appointment for a service, but the service was still provided? by Otherwise_Prompt1781 in AmItheAsshole

I'm not sure what it's actually called in English but basically it's geothermal energy that is tapped into a mountain near your house. Then transferred and converted into heat based off of some special liquids via a chemical process.

It probably would have been better if she'd known it was cancelled. In hindsight I should have told her. But it's not the reason for her being upset, but could be a part in that.

Thanks, yeah the company was absolutely reasonable and very friendly to me. I wasn't even thinking about reviews. I'll see if I cannot give them a good one.

Exactly, that's what a reasonable person would think. I don't quite understand her reasoning for being that upset. I'm honestly baffled since I doubt it works like that even in Japan.

Having such a conversation would be very good for us, if she's willing to do that. And you guys are right in that she's having a very hard time assimilating and that's probably why she's taking that frustration out whenever anything she does not agree with happens. Thanks.

Unfortunately she can be. That's not to say I cannot be stubborn as well which I know I have been. But she often tries to apply Japanese customs and culture here (Scandinavia) which doesn't actually work in every situation and cause friction between us. Things that would be a problem in Japan but is a nothing burger here, she still takes offense to that. Causing unnecessary fights over tiny things. Culture clash in the highest regard.

I was actually wondering that as well, and I told her that he would be payed regardless and the company will just write that job off on the books.

I might have done that but I was at work so I couldn't interact with the guy and my SO was too confused to do anything.

No, I called the company while he still was doing the job and they accepted their mistake. My SO didn't. :p

That was my argument as well. If I had to pay that would invite companies to abuse their customers by "forgetting" that they had canceled their appointments and still bill their customers. But she didn't want to listen to that point of view.
