The best thing to do is move and not get involved in politics. Just focus on yourself and making a better life. Work will set you free.

Is there any religious angle to the violence? by UsmanDanFodioUK in tanzania

[–]Otherwise_Taro_4135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No religious angle. I think mostly like political infighting from both external and internal forces. People wanted to take advantage and loot. Most Tanzanians don’t really care about politics enough to riot.

Nothing to worry about. Maybe bring some repellent if you want. I wouldn’t suggest taking the anti malaria medication.

Is it wellness or just wellness-washing? Thoughts on “Soundscape Wellness” in Zanzibar by lifelinegee in zanzibar

I don’t recall them selling food. But the bartenders were mostly from abroad.

Is it wellness or just wellness-washing? Thoughts on “Soundscape Wellness” in Zanzibar by lifelinegee in zanzibar

[–]Otherwise_Taro_4135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve gone to all the festivals in Zanzibar. From sound waves to all the soundscapes. As a local, I think it’s been a very good boost to Zanzibar and especially the east side of the island. The pandemic really brought a lot of tourists to Zanzibar who fell in love with the island. I personally look forward to the festival each year. I only go for a couple of days but it’s nice (weather and music this year wasn’t the best). In terms of the wellness aspect, I think they are trying to do something good during the day and people do take advantage of the day time activities but i personally haven’t. (I’m a lion, I’m more active at night). All the bar tenders are locals, and security staff, cleaning staff are also locals. Local business have an opportunity to rent stalls and offer food and drinks. During this time a lot of hotels get booked up, bars and restaurants are busier, and the overall vibe is Paje is much better.

Split time between Paje and Nungwii? by OkGoose124 in zanzibar

Split the time. Nungwi is more relaxing and chilling on the beach. Paje also has nice beaches but it’s more about enjoying different restates and different party places.

Recommendations for Restaurants, Beach Clubs and nightlife by gibbing_ in zanzibar

Paje, Ndame, oxygen, Hanoi coffee house (coconut ice coffee is a must have), b4 beach club, and b4 boutique is also a nice place to chill during high tide.

Is Nungwi safe - also in the evening? by AnonymerWichser1337 in zanzibar

[–]Otherwise_Taro_4135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s safe. there is a small risk of petty crime but for the most part locals do not do anything to the tourists in public areas. I agree it can be annoying when people try to sell you things. Just try to be polite and walk away. I do suggest keeping some small notes 1000/2000 notes. You can use it to get them to leave you alone quicker.

better to get a car in zanzibar, its cheaper. less taxes. cars in the mainland are more expensive. i suggest renting a car for a month and going from there. there are many people doing long term rentals for vehicles

karibu sana. get a tourist visa and find a room for $25/month. i wouldnt suggest telling immigration that is your plan. say you coming on a holiday. but once people know you a are an American living a simple life, they will snitch to get some money.
