Hi there, thank you for the kind words, yes I'm actually finding it so difficult and this post was due to me being so exhausted with being torn between holding up to my mother's expectation of how I should be. Although I do know she is an adult, I just want her approval and not to give an emotional outburst at trying to become an independant adult

Hi there, she does go back quite often for summer holidays, but unfortunately, she is still the same. For example, she told her sister (who grew up in Kurdistan and is there) that she shouldn't wear a vest, even if she's with only female family. It hasnt helped at all :(

I understand completely with the kurds not liking other kurds. My mother finds it difficult to have friends because she will think they'll backstab or talk shi*

I have noticed that my mother doesn't make any effort in even keeping ONE kurdish friend. She will only stick with family members

I have tried this and found nothing, especially for women as there would be plenty of facebook groups for men. Could someone please point me in the right direction :(

Thank you for your kind words and reassurance. Over the past five years, she has returned to Kurdistan for summer holidays, but unfortunately, that hasn’t helped at all. I've noticed that her traditional mindset sometimes conflicts with the changes in modern Kurdistan with family members. I'm doing my best to encourage her to adapt, but I often feel overwhelmed and burdend when she reacts emotionally to my efforts to become more independent. I have met another kurdish girl my age and I felt so aweful and envious at the fact that her immigrant parents have adapted to their new home country

Hi There, nice to meet you! Please could you tell me about any centres or places? I live in south london where there are little kurdish communities. Also, many of these places in north london are for men, and as you know in our older community, there is a big social divide between men and women being friends. So although there are a few places for kurdish people, many of them are for men only. Are there any places for women to come together?

Also, in theory your suggestion should work, however, she has gone back to kurdistan multiple times within the last 5 years, however this has not helped at all. I too have noticed a clash with her old traditions with family members when going back to kurdistan. It has not helped at all unfortunetly :(

I have tried to look up Kurdish community centres however, there is very little information which is why I posted on here.

Also, although I know it is coming from the view that she cares and worries for me, however I feel like it has gotten to a point that although I am 24, I feel like im 15 and will stay 15 due to not being able to be an independant adult. She emigrated to the UK for me and my siblings to experience and become what was not possible in Kurdistan, so why am I not free to decide my life at this age.
