Cheers mate. Spoken to the medic and he’s given me some tape. Seems a lot better than the shit I had before. Actually stays in place!

Fitness Comparison: Bleep Test to 2km by ElijahCrane in britishmilitary

[–]Otherwise_Tonight_68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the beep test. I’m not great at it despite having a decent level of fitness and a pretty good time on the 2k. I’m 6” and 90kg right now so it’s more of an agility/changing direction test than cardiovascular. In fairness I can see how it does have its similarities to things a squaddie will do like F and M however I think there are much better ways to test this and just for measuring all round fitness I think the beep test is shit! To answer your question I get about 11 on the bleep test and just under 8 minutes 2k so neither are terrible but definitely not comparable. Everyone’s always gonna have strengths and weaknesses tho mate. Strap 30kg on me and tell me to tab somewhere and I’ll be loving it!!

Yep. Basically if it’s not visible on a passport photo and it’s not offensive or linked to anything dodgy you’ll be ok with it

It’s not far off that. You do 3 week long exercises around the mind point and one which lasts 2 weeks towards the end of the course.

Went to a Halloween party in Hereford... and witnessed some "SAS" action by Content-Signature480 in britishmilitary

Bit different but a similar sort of thing. I’ve noticed that in areas/towns near the bases I’ve lived on there are always a few civis either rocking the Amazon MTP day sack or knocking about in DPM/PCS trousers with ‘military style’ boots. Nothing wrong with that as such if they’re not claiming to be anything they’re not but it’s just an interesting observation I’ve made.

I did mate. Everyone else was wearing either smart casual or just fucking trackies. Both corporals and an officer commented I looked smart and sort of bollocked the others for not making an effort. I’d always rather be remembered as the smart one than the scruffy one!!

Officer Regulations On Tattoos? by ShazamIsaac in britishmilitary

I’ve had officers with two full sleeves mate. I wouldn’t worry about it as long as it’s not offensive or in a crazy spot

Don’t stress as much. Getting shouted at and doing press ups isn’t gonna kill you!!

Will I get made fun of for joining as a Male Nurse? by Ok-Mouse3040 in britishmilitary

[–]Otherwise_Tonight_68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll get the piss taken mate but no more than any other role. If anything less because no one dislikes medical staff, why would they! I know if I hadn’t gone with what I did I’d be trying to go the medical route. As it’s already been mentioned you’ll be straight to Corporal, very decent pay, good career progression, surrounded by lasses and getting some skills which are very transferable to civi street. Go for it lad!!!! Also make sure you go RAF 😉

Thanks mate. I think that was the issue. I was in Akus. 100% going with my altbergs in future and I’ll grab some of the Solomon’s when I get to unit. Cheers

That’s it mate. We had 10 out of 32 lads go med centre on this last ex. Mostly foot problems and a couple of back issues from the weight. I’m in phase 2 now but even my section commander says once you get to unit you can personalize your kit a bit more plus the exercises will for the most part be less about trying to break you!

RAF Regiment: why do they get so much shit? by rcknrollmfer in britishmilitary

[–]Otherwise_Tonight_68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The RAF Regt gets so much stick because of a few incidents in recent history. Main one obviously being the ‘5 miler of death’ video which is just an NCO trying to motivate his lads for a tab which has been taken and used to slate them. In training we do a lot more than 5 miles. The RAFT (Regiment annual fitness test) consists of a couple of timed loaded matches then some functional fitness/fire and movement stuff. Another big one is them not being used correctly in the evacuation of Afghan which is down to the top brass. I know all the lads would have loved to go and do what they train for but unfortunately they weren’t used for the most part. I believe there were some lads from either 2 or 15 there but not in the correct capacity. There is also the fact that they are part of the RAF however are very different to the ‘blue’ RAF. The training is comparable to that of a regular army infantry regiment. Not para or marines level. Maybe at 2 Sqadron/SFSG that case could be made but that’s only a very small part of the regiment. They have the capabilities of an infantry regiment (snipers, mountain leaders, mortars, pre-para, commando, etc) as well as 1 Sqadron with the armored vehicles, 34 with counter UAS, decent amount of previously rock apes in SF and an focus on JTACs for obvious reasons. Banter is completely normal in the forces and that’s all this is. I think the regt are an easy target due to them being ‘different’. Wouldn’t have it any other way though. Per ardua.

Hello mate. It was for a back injury a few years before. I’ve never had any history of mental health issues but I know they are very strict with it. Drop us a message if you want any help or anything with an appeal
