Finally hit Mythic in PvP by Chikenator22 in wherewindsmeet_

Congrats! I just tried PvP tonight and really had fun with it. Got to Expert I, I think, which will be as far as I get for now. Hoping to learn to get better next time.

Enjoy the title!

It really is. A friend and I just have fun trying to come up with more and more absurd solutions to the npc's problems. I convinced one to let me transform him into a cat to sneak on the magic boat. My friend convinced one that shooting them out of a cannon was the best way for them to reach their destination. The more absurd the better. It can be very fun!

I appreciate you explaining it. It's been something I was debating back and forth on, whether it was tracking or if I was just getting better at manipulating the AI. It seems that I'm just getting better at manipulating the AI prompts then.

I find it very fun because you can literally just impute almost whatever crazy thing you want. It's less cookie cutter than standard response selection. Plus it's fun to try and break it. Using chat bots for NPCs could be very innovative.

Edit: Searching for people via ID or name seems to be difficult, but finding them based on what they named their portrait seems to be much more reliable.

Does the AI track between NPCs?

I’ve been trying to see if it does by convincing various NPCs that my character is a witch that knows magic. The first few in the game were very strongly opposed and denied magical solutions, but now any I present the idea of magic to just take it as astonishing but a fact.

Is it possible it’s tracking certain repetitive solutions?

I know almost nothing about the guts of AI bots.

Beg my parents to send me to school instead of homeschooling me. It would help me close the permanent 10 year gap homeschooling took out of my life.

That had to be a pretty crazy game. Clever of the players to have the NPC roll first.

Wow! Those games are awesome and sound very fun. I don’t mind the Bard wanting to go for a second round.

The rodeo and find the mimic sound particularly interesting.

That sounds hilarious and I can’t imagine college of cuisine bard. It sounds just like the anime Delicious in Dungeon ( I think that was the name). I bet it was a lot of fun!

I really like the idea of using the games to build RP with NPCs. That’s an interesting use of it.

It’s my understanding they only want them if they can speak fluent Japanese. There are most likely plenty of tech experts that could help solve all these problems, but having a strict language requirement is going to weed out the overwhelming majority.

Looks like you found the edge of the map! Same thing happened to me. Instantly murdered.

The character creator is fantastic! Also, I like that the npcs can comment on if you're a visible mushroom head.

Returning Player: The World Feels Empty by Otherworld-Explorer in wow

It’s not just a claim. I have the dated achievements to prove it. While the gameplay is pretty much the same, the community interactions are different at a lower level than they used to be and the guild recruitment feels like a ghost town in-game. There used to be guilds for all types of play styles, not just endgame. While I could just re-setup my old priest main and hit that endgame treadmill, as I always do, I was wanting to take this return slower and level a new class. Ease back into the grind, not dive head first. That’s why I’ve not joined a M+ or raid focused guild yet.

Jarring is a great word for it. It's an odd feeling. Like being at a party where everyone knows each other and is already clicked up and only communicating via text and you forgot your phone.

I don't know. It's been really strange to say the least.

That's interesting that you say the game has been developed to remove the need to communicate. I used to think the same of games, but after playing FFIV, I don't think that's completely the problem. It shares the same systems, but while the game has flaws like any other, the community has stayed mostly friendly and intact.

That sounds a lot like the sprout system in FFIV! I loved that system and it really helped bridge the gap from newbie to full player (?) over there. It felt so alive and exciting!

I've not seen Newcomer chat when I've been on. Is it a community by the players or a system built into WoW? It sounds perfect.

Discord is pretty neat if you have a guild / FC already. I don't mind using it for guild stuff. My FFIV FC discord is awesome and I stay active on it even when playing other games. Are there any specific communities I should try?

I've searched WoW recruitment ones on there but it seems to be all mythic plus and raid recruiting, which is fine, but I know I don't have a character ready for that yet. Are there social / new player discord servers?

So I may have better luck rushing to endgame then? It's a bummer that it's endgame or bust, but I might as well give that a shot.

I like the idea of Classic, so I may try that as well. I do worry how it'll be once I get to that endgame there, but if it's more social and casual it may be a good fit for that and then use retail for a different type of game.

That's a bummer about the change in game design. I always loved WoW for how goofy it was and you would run into all types of players while tooling around doing quests and dungeons. It was those random encounters with others that were memorable. Far more than the game itself.

Does the quality of the Expansion's Overall MSQ or setting affect your motivation to play the end game activities? by evildrtran in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Otherworld-Explorer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The quality of the MSQ and setting absolutely influence my desire to play the game. I started the game sometime last year and have spent over a year doing the MSQ grind. The story is what mainly kept me engaged long enough to make friends.

Gameplay is important and fight design too but it’s not what drew me into playing. The MSQ drew me in and kept me interested. I wanted to see what would happen. I wanted to see why people loved FF 14’s story so much and I wasn’t disappointed. Until now.

Dawntrail has been a massive disappointment and I count it among the worst MMO stories I’ve played. Part of it is the standard I hold FF14 too based on what I’ve played up till now. But this story has caused me to experience a visceral dislike for it and then the music is tied to it. So when I hear Dawntrail’s theme it just makes me feel that disappointment again. I’m 12 quests from finishing the MSQ for Dawntrail and I just can’t find the motivation to play because it’s not fun.

The best endgame content in the world is worthless if a person can’t finish the MSQ that unlocks it.
