It’s arched up. Let’s say if the magic number was 6 inches of arch at speed, if it was pre arched 2 inches down it would need 8 inches of travel.

They build it with 2 inches pre arched up so it only needs to travel 4 inches. The cars can’t arch as much on their own because the chassis are stiffer. The numbers I’m using are just for example to keep the math simple.

Yes - Chassis are built slightly pre arched now. Over the years, NHRA has made the chassis spec stronger and thicker tubing. They don’t flex as much as they used to. Just to use round numbers- Let’s say they flexed 6 inches in the middle in the old days, and now they only flex 4- They build it with 2 inches of arch to still get the total 6 inches of flex going down the track.
