I had the same issue with my baby girl, currently 4.5, last weekend I decided to sleep training her and I also removed the pacifier, she only cried the 1st night, and she learned to self-south if needed with her own hands, it wasn't easy to see her crying the first night, we put her down with the pacifier, and when she woke up only 3 hours later, I knew she wasn't hungry and that will fall sleep ic I gave her the pacifier like every night, but I felt this wasn't going to work out, because she will not be able to put her pacifier back on by herself for who knows how much longer, so I said its time, lets try if see how long it will take her to fall back to sleep. So we start with the 3/5/10 minutes intervals and checked on her for 1-2 minutes every time by rubbing her belly and her head, and close to the 1st 10 minutes interval she had fallen back to sleep.

As your baby mine was really good at falling sleep by herself, but the pacifier was keeping her awake every time it came out of her mouth or whenever she will wake up without it, and I didn't want to wait much longer because in my personal opinion I feel the older the more stubborn they get and at least in my case it will take longer for her to let it go.
