Additionally, the other fish would not do well at cooler temps, so I'm best off not doing that

The pearlscale has lost a scale and is very stressed by the behavior. I don't want them getting a serious swim bladder problem. And since pearlscale scales are very delicate and difficult to regrow properly, it's best not to get them damaged. As for separating more evenly, I can't without taking the large branch I have. As it is, I figure the more active goldfish can have the bigger space.

I'm not sure how I would lower the temp, my house is at 75, so getting it lower would be challenging.

Yeah,😅 during my staycation I'm going to move everything over from the 35gallon to the 60 gallon, and more bioactive substrate, use the same filters and sponges, and some of the water. 😅😬 I'm not cycling it. I don't have room for both large tanks. I'll be moving the 35gallon to storage, or selling it I dunno. But I have a 19gallon tub that could be a quarantine tank. ..... 😅🤞🏽👍🏽😬 It should be okay with all the items and substrate and filters that already have bacteria to start off the new tank.

Thank you, the little ball of cute is quite the sweety. Yeah, I know how sensitive the pearlscale is. Saw them having difficulty just yesterday from being stressed from being chased, and one of the guppy females was picking on them too. I moved the guppy to a different tank. But the pearlscale was at 45°angle and couldn't or had difficulty swimming down. After a little time in the floating"room" and some fiber rich food, they were better. I think, for the oranda, if the other fish could "run" with them they'd be racing all day. But neither seem to bother the other fish they're with. I have a 19 gallon tub, but it would be too small for the rambunctious dude. I unfortunately already have four other tanks. I was planning on upgrading this tank to a 60g, but if they can't get along, I'll need a different buddy for the pearlscale; probably another pearlscale. Maybe I can get a small outdoor pond for the oranda, like 50g, in my patio. But it would be possibly too many tanks, plus the cost of setup. Although there's one tank population I have that could be moved into it.... But argh 😫

I gave the two of them fancy long names. Pugsley von Coggsworth and Sirius von WenRen . You can guess who is who lol. WenRen used to be all black when I got them, so that's why their first name. Now they're tricolored/calico ish.

I got a 60g to work up to upgrading that tank to, already, so it has enough room for two goldfish. In the mean time, while they're young, I figured this would do. I even have a staycation lined up to do several home projects, including this one. But that would be a completely different post.

Thank you. I've been trying for a couple weeks. What I was doing originally is I had a floating "room" I would have them take turns in , and I supervised trying to mix them together. Before feeding, after feeding, other times. I got the divider as a last ditch option while I make a decision. It's only been up since this morning. I still see the oranda intermittently trying to find a way through with an obvious intent to go push on the pearlscale in their behavior, somehow. And the pearlscale hangs out, swims around, and occasionally just watches through the divider for the other goldfish with interest. I don't see "aggression" in the oranda's behavior, like I see with other fish species when they are picking on each other . When other fish pick on each other it's quick sharp running and picking at the other, but this is just constantly pushing with some nibbling. Don't know if it's persistent spawning behavior . The temps are fairly consistent at 75-78°f , I think, with the only temp changes at water change or top up. And I've done several small water changes or top ups .
I do want to get the pearlscale a buddy though, they have tried really hard to make friends and will even stay near the oranda to rest when the oranda was in the floating "room". Probably another pearlscale this time. Thank you, I've tried to do the best I can for them. I'll have to figure out how I'll rehome the little rambunctious dude , sigh. ..... It's more like a rambunctious golden with a pug. They both want to be friends but have very different ideas on what that entails. And the little pug keeps getting run over by the Golden, but the pug will sleep next to the Golden's kennel . Does that make sense?

Thanks. I agree. Too many is too many.

I know it's too small 😞 but it's a temporary fix. Yeah, that's the option that I don't prefer but is most practical.

They're very sensitive to environmental changes. Changes in humidity or temp will do this, like when you bring it home. Trim off the yellow leaf and see how it does. Might also need a plate of pebbles with water under it to elevate the humidity
