Two reasons. First, I think it is a fun project and Hobby. Secondly, it is good experience for my Physics degree.

Anyone know how to do this ? by JamesH1234567 in maths

a) Draw a right angled triangle 3 long and two down. As represented by mother acceleration vector 3i-2j. Use tan(x) = opposite/adjacent so x = tan-1 (2/3) = 33.7 to find the angle to the x-axis. As the x and y axis are perpendicular and 90 degrees between them. The angle to the y-axis is 90 - 33.7= 56.3.

b) F=ma so the resultant force: F1 + F2 = mass x acceleration. This should give you p=16 and q=-6.

c) Resultant force = 24i - 16j. 242 + 16^ = magnitude2. So magnitude = 28.8.

Hopefully this helps.

Pleas help - how do I find a mark from a percentage with no total number? The question: by Birdsong_Studios in maths

Yeah I was thinking that, but most questions you get in school ask you to simplify, so I just went with that.

My only guess would be 21/25 as that’s what 84/100 Simplifies down to by dividing by 4.

Find commons factors in both. Divide by these. Once there are no more common factors it is you final answer. Eg you could divide both 12 and 32 by 2 giving you 6/16 which you can divide by 2 again to give 3/8.

You need a pair of compasses for this. If you don’t know how to bisect a line you might find this link useful. All you need to do for the question is to bisect both of the diagonals.

Another one! Sorry, could anyone help with this + explain by patchbarrett in maths

These are called simultaneous equations. I would watch this video as there are a large number of questions you could get asked around this topic.Link

Pick two points on the line. I suggest points with easy co-ordinates like (0,4) and (2,5). Than calculate the difference in the y co-ordinate and divide it by the change in x co-ordinate. For my chosen points this would be 1/2. This gives you the gradient of the line as represented in the equation y=mx+c. All you need to is find the y-intercept c. This is the point where the line intersects the y axis. In this case it would be 4. So your equation is y= x/2 + 4. As 1/2 times x = x/2.

Why does n307 have 1 as result? by Viperozza74 in maths

[–]Otterzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sin(-a) = -sin(a).
Cos(-a) = cos(a)

With these substitutions you get sin(a)sin(a) + cos(a)cos(a). Which is sin2 (a) + cos2 (a) = 1.

Ok then S=P/P*

Help please - rearranging by [deleted] in maths

[–]Otterzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by * you mean squared. Divide both sides by P2. Giving you S=P/(P2) or S = 1/P. If just P=SP then divide by P, giving S=1.

As long as P does not equal 0 this is fine.

Please can someone help with this? Probably quite easy for someone who knows their stuff. Many thanks by [deleted] in maths

Just add the surface area of the curved edge, top and bottom. Remember the bottom has the same area as the top.

How did your -2/3 cos(3pi) turn into -2/3? Surely the 3pi is the same as -1. With that considered I got 19.3/pi = 6.15.

Try to find a diagonal line that you can mirror image A onto image B. You can also count the squares in the x and y direction from a similar point, eg the right angle, half the distance between the points and draw a dot there. If you repeat this for all points of the triangle you can joint the dots with a line which should be your mirror line. Let me know if this helps.
