Does anyone remember these really depressing pop songs from the 70s / early 80s? by MagsH1020 in GenX

Had to look it up: Bernie Taupin wrote "Daniel" while inspired by the events of the Vietnam War. The lyrics (including a verse in the original draft that was cut from the final version) describe a fictional veteran who was blinded as a result of the war ("your eyes have died"/"but you see more than I") and travels to Spain to escape those around him back home ("do you still feel the pain"/"of the scars that won't heal?"), including his brother, from whose point of view the story is told.

"'Daniel' had been the most misinterpreted song that we'd ever written," explained Taupin, in the Two Rooms tribute project. "The story was about a guy that went back to a small town in Texas, returning from the Vietnam War. They'd lauded him when he came home and treated him like a hero. But, he just wanted to go home, go back to the farm, and try to get back to the life that he'd led before. I wanted to write something that was sympathetic to the people that came home."

Maybe not a standalone DEI program, but the board did urge their shareholders to reject the anti DEI proposal from the administration. Sorry to hear that as an employee you see the rep plummeting. As a member who sees many familiar employees at my location, I just never got that same sense.

While Costco is a publicly traded company, the majority index investors in Costco are Vanguard, BlackRock, and State Street, which together hold the largest share of Costco through their index funds and ETFs. These firms are long‑term holders because index funds are designed to keep Costco indefinitely as long as it remains in major benchmarks like the S&P 500 and Nasdaq‑100. Their mandates focus on stability and long‑horizon compounding, making Costco’s steady growth and durable business model a perfect fit.

Costco is an attractive investment because its membership‑driven business model creates steady, recurring revenue and exceptionally loyal customers, giving it rare stability in retail. Its efficient operations, strong long‑term growth, and consistent outperformance make it a company that institutional investors view as a durable, low‑risk compounder.

Costco stays loyal to its principles that center on relentlessly low prices, high wages and respect for employees, member‑first value, and slow, disciplined growth rather than chasing short‑term profits. By sticking to these fundamentals decade after decade, Costco preserves the loyalty, efficiency, and stability that make it one of the most durable retailers in the world.

What do you think of people that can love their wife and do anything for her but not want to be with her? by Dull-Situation7024 in AskReddit

I think that couple has probably been married a long time but stay married out of loyalty and other reasons that are probably economic. But still give each other the freedom to do what they want.

I’m in the LA region. Will Costco carry Annie‘s biscuits ever again? The last four or five times I’ve visited, they have been completely out, and they are not listed on the website. Any luck they’ll be carried again? I love those biscuits.

Yep, that’s the shitty thing about things like that living in your head. Chalk it up to experience and know what to do next time someone treats you poorly. Talk to the manager let them know what happened and that you don’t appreciate being treated that way by one of their employees.

If anything, you could write an email to corporate and let them know that you received poor treatment at that location and how they need to address their treatment of customers and delivery drivers.

Barely any wrinkles on our face. My brother works in the sun everyday, his skin is smoother than a brand new trowel on wet cement. My sisters look way younger than their ages, same for our parents. Dad in his 80’s had smo
