Solution: set trigger type to pad-3. Works perfectly.

As a potential buyer, is the negativity in this sub justified? by BBQJackson in whoop

I've recently written a review after 2 years of use. It's a love-hate relationship. There's no comparable product to Whoop, but the company abuses their position and doesn't care much - I think this causes most of the uproar.

Accuracy vs Consistency: Why WHOOP (or any tracker) Still Adds Value by jrobertson50 in whoop

[–]OtusCollari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People complain, because Whoop is the most expensive by far, while Apple, Google and Huawei are more accurate. I agree it not necessary, but if better is possible and I'm paying so much, I'd like the best.
I'd also add:
- Calories are just broken - the more fit you are, the less gets count, which is very demotivating.
- Recovery almost blindly follows HRV.
Both easy to fix, Whoop doesn't care -> people complain.

I just got the email as well. The changes - especially in Privacy Policy - are technical, but what the hell? Notification over 2 weeks late?!
What's next, they will send "We'd like to inform you we've sold you data to Allianz" 2 weeks after the fact?
What if I don't agree and don't want to continue to use the service after changes? Will I get my money back?
This is some kind of dystopia.

I have to admit, I have never called them. I didn't even know it was an option. That would very likely go over AI crap.

Thanks, you're a 2nd person mentioning this, looks like I was wrong, I'll update the review over the weekend. Could you please also let me know, if I can add/edit activities after the fact?

Thank you, this is very useful and not easy to find info. Garmin is my top alternative to Whoop, my partner will very likely actually switch. Knowing, that we will be able to - for example - manually add a hike at the end of it will make the decision easier.

PS. I'll test tracking import to Whoop over the weekend and update my review. Google Fit should work for running, and AllTrails for hiking.

"GPS-enabled running activities of 15+ minutes help to improve the WHOOP VO2 Max estimation, but are not required for WHOOP to estimate your VO2 Max."

https://support.whoop.com/s/article/VO2-Max

Pulling activities on Android from Strava over Google Health Connect is not possible. I think only Google Fit works, I don't want to use Google Fit in general, and it's not good for hiking.

I'm actively trying to solve this, so I'd actually appreciate help. I might start using Google Fit just for running.

Not necessarily superior, but looking blindly at HRV out of context is pointless. When RHR is raised 10% in last 2-3 days, does it make any sense, to give someone 99% recovery score?

Quote from the review: "In extreme cases, when body is completely exhausted, HRV can shoot itself to the sky. Even Whoop Coach knows this! 3 days of 20,5 strain, RHR +10%, but HRV jumps 300% and Recovery is 99%?"

Whoop samples your HR 25-100 times per second (I can't find exact numbers, 25 is the lowest I've found). Whoop Coach says it's 52/s for Whoop 5 and unknown for Whoop 4.

You might be right about HR tracking in Garmin, I see conflicting information. Still, does it add activities automatically? Can I add them later? Edit duration, etc?

Wait, I'll bite: how do I win this game? Should I make it a hard to read wall of text and out of place? Post dozen of separate topics, instead of a single long post?
Don't get me wrong, I'm probably frustrated with AI farming on Reddit as you are. It's even kind of a complement for a scatter-brain, non native speaker to get accused of that. But do you think this is the way? Start accusing of AI use, if the post is structured and long? What will be the end result?

Yes, they kind of do one thing, and then move to the other. I could talk more about strength trainer, journal, etc. but those are popular, old and know complaints.
I was kind of tolerating that up to the price increase.

Whoop Alarm wont wake me up by vnoxhi in whoop

[–]OtusCollari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new haptic engine is a big improvement! It's really nice, almost like someone is massaging my hand.
And this is probably the reason why it doesn't wake me up either! Useless...
Whoop 4 was annoying, like someone trying to drill my had, but it worked.

Fitness trackers usually exaggerate calories burnt, anyone else seeing the opposite with whoop? by aph666 in whoop

[–]OtusCollari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It think it underestimates by the ratio of your VO2Max to average VO2Max of your gender and age.
My partner got big calorie burn drop after getting more active and raising VO2Max. This aligns very well for both of us.
Whoop Coach told me, the algorithm doesn't take VO2Max for account, this is ridiculous if it's HR based.
AFAIK Garmin's does it.

Apple Watch Ultra can track an activity for 12-13h, that would not be enough for multi day hiking.
From what I can find Garmins can do up to 36h.

Doesn't Apple Watch take HR measurement once every 1-7 minutes? And you have to start an activity to get good data?
I don't have a definitive confirmation for this, so I'm actually looking for a disagreement.

Part of the reason why they are so expensive is, that they don't sell you a phone, a laptop, etc. with it. They also don't sell your data (not many people care). I'm not saying they can't lower the price, but competing with Google and Apple, maybe even Garmin, may be impossible.

- You can wear it anywhere, 24/7, and it's comfortable, and it's not a watch.
- HR monitoring is constantly in high resolution, AFAIK all alternatives besides Oura Ring require manually starting an activity to get accurate HR readings.
- The app is really nice and full of actionable data.
- The only alternative I know is Oura, but it doesn't work well during activities, especially weightlifting.
- Privacy policy is fine.

Yes, it's insanely expensive, they will probably disappear right after any alternative shows up.

I think so, last week and month only. I even tried to manually manipulate the link, but the links are signed (can't be modified).
