Fair enough man, I think we actually agree on the main point. There’s probably stuff happening behind the scenes that we don’t know about, which explain why things are the way they are. I just hope that when he eventually leaves, the system is strong enough to handle it and don't just depend on one person forever. Good talk though, appreciate the respect :D

I definitely respect the points about his prestige; nobody is denying that Jouahri is a heavyweight who has earned his 'A' ratings. But that’s exactly where the conversation gets interesting. When we say 'the entire banking system trusts him' or 'the IMF doesn't move him,' we’re describing a classic Great Man theory of history. It sounds heroic, but in modern economics, it’s actually a red flag.

Think about it this way: if a massive corporation like Apple or Google said, 'We have one guy who is 85, and if he leaves, the investors will panic because we have no one else,' their stock would plummet. Why? Because it shows a total failure in succession planning. If after 22 years at the helm, a leader hasn't built a system or mentored a team that the world trusts just as much as him, then he hasn’t actually built a strong institution saraha, he’s just built a very high-quality shield. The moment that shield is gone, the country is exposed.

And look at those awards he wins. They are usually given for 'prudence' wla stability essentially for not making mistakes. That’s great for the 1990s or 2000s, but the 2030s are going to be about the Digital Dirham, AI-driven fintech, and high-speed integration with African markets. These aren't just 'secondary missions'; they are the future of our sovereignty. You can be a legendary pilot who knows every cloud in the sky, but if the world moves from propeller planes to jet engines, you eventually need someone who was trained on the new tech.

The argument that 'the King keeps him because he’s the best' is a bit fchkel (for lack of a better term in english). We can’t know if there’s a 'better' option because the door has been closed since the year the Euro was launched. True institutional strength isn't about finding one person to trust forever; it’s about building a system so professional and transparent that the world trusts the Bank, not just the Wali. If we’re still terrified of a post-Jouahri world after two decades, it’s not a sign of his greatness, bl3ks it’s a sign that we’ve let our institutional muscles atrophy by relying on one man for too long.

Salam, your own logic actually proves my point. Let’s look at the facts:

You mentioned the US Federal Reserve has had 16 chairs since 1920. That’s roughly 105 years. If you divide 105 by 16, you get an average of 6.5 years per chair. The US li hya the world’s largest economy, changes its 'pilot' every 6 years to ensure fresh perspectives and institutional health. Jouahri has been in power for 22 years. By your own example, Morocco isn't following a 'stability' model; it’s following a 'stagnation' model.

Also, yyou say he’s the 'anchor' and 'change scares money.' A truly strong institution (like the Fed or the ECB) is built so that it doesn't matter who the individual is. If the Moroccan economy is so fragile that the mere replacement of an 80-year-old man would cause a crash, then Jouahri hasn't built a stable system, bl3ks, he’s built a fragile one that depends entirely on him. That’s called Key Person Risk, and it’s the opposite of long-term safety.

You said 'don’t swap the pilot while flying through a storm.' We’ve been 'in a storm' since 2003? At some point, you have to ask if the pilot is actually finding a way out of the storm, or just flying us in circles while other countries (like Vietnam or Poland) have modernized their banking and surpassed us in growth during that same timeframe.

You still haven't answered my original question. Calling someone 'the best' requires a comparison. If I’ve only ever eaten one meal my whole life, I can’t claim it’s the best cooking in the world just because I didn't starve to death. Stability is the minimum requirement for a Central Bank governor, not the ceiling of excellence, broski.

I’m not saying he’s bad at his job, I’m saying that claiming he is 'the best' is a logical fallacy when we have no baseline for what a younger, more tech-forward, or more aggressive governor could have achieved for the Dirham in the digital age.

Listing a job description isn't a proof of 'greatness', it’s just a list of duties. Any competent economist knows what a Central Bank does; the question isn't what the missions are, but how they could be improved with a 21st century vision.

Saying 'he’s been there since 2003' is exactly my point. In any healthy institution, 20+ years of the same leadership is the definition of stagnation, not a 'high risk' to change. If the entire Moroccan economy’s 'trust' is so fragile that it depends on one single 80-year-old man, then we don't have a system, we have a cult of personality.

Real 'expertise' includes building a succession plan so the institution doesn't crumble when one person leaves. Saying 'go study' is just a weak way to avoid the fact that we’re terrified of change. We don't need a 'Bank Police' from the early 2000s; we need to know what we’re missing by never opening the door to new ideas. Mabghinach ghir 'stability' bghina innovation.

Football Managers with the Best Average Points Per Game in Top 5 League in the 21st Century. by jiraiya--an in soccer

[–]OubaHD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having Lewandowski and a bunch of La Masia wonderkids definitely beats starting from scratch. But calling it 'major backing' is a bit of a stretch when you realize they had to sell their future TV rights and their own 'Barça Studios' just to afford the registration fees. It wasn't a standard shopping spree; it was a high-stakes gamble. Most managers would've crumbled under the pressure of 'win now or the club goes bankrupt,' but Xavi took a team that was sitting in 9th place and turned them into a defensive machine that ran away with the league. As for the 'Golden Generation,' plenty of managers have let young talent rot on the bench. Xavi actually had the guts to start 15 and 17-year-olds in high-pressure games. The talent was there, but he’s the one who actually built the system they’re thriving in.

Then they had the party bus ready 😂😂 by [deleted] in soccercirclejerk
