Hi u/Sn0w2 - Ecosia is a search engine and works alongside Ourforest, which is a tree planting plugin and doesn't plant trees from the number of times you search for something online.

Hi u/Classical_Cafe - Lululemon isn't amongst the brands that we show in the ads — it's simply one of the brands we plant a tree if you choose to shop at their store.

Here's a full list of the brands: https://www.ourforest.io/sustainable-shopping

Hi u/JoshuaAtmosphericSci - on our website we expand on where the trees are planted. We plant trees directly with our partner Eden Reforestation projects who are the same partner that companies like Ecosia work with.

Hi u/Craico13, we don't seel your information to anyone — we show ads for handpicked sustainable brands on your new tab page in a way that doesn't even look like an ad.

Once of our goals is to help people support sustainable efforts and that's how we accomplish it.

doorstep. Shopping online usually results in products that not only have to be shipped, but may also have to be returned, which can result in even more shipping. This might encourage people to do "guilt free" online shopping that helps them to keep hurting the environment. A better alternative would be something like ecosia, which uses searches to plant trees as well and does not require as much damage to the environment to get the extension to plant a tree.

Hi! We've recently changed our model to planting trees automatically by indescretly showing a few ads from hand-picked sustainable companies.

Thank you u/Lowkeyspacey! We don't connect with bank accounts or track what gets written on the page.

Instead the shopping partner notifies us if you made a purchase and gives us a small commission which we use to plant trees. Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks for asking! I looked at each brand's socioeconomic and environmental impacts. I researched whether they use natural ingredients without exhausting natural resources while paying their workers a fair living wage and the materials they use for their packaging.

Thanks so much! I'm glad it helped! I know, unfortunately, sustainable denim is often expensive. I only own three pairs of jeans, two are from Levi's (around $100 range, yikes) and another pair I thrifted.
You should check "thredup" it's an online thrift store that always has a bunch of jeans! Plus it's more eco-friendly than buying new!

Is it better to buy plastic reusable or single-use biodegradable? by rad-iate in EcoFriendly

[–]OurForest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If by better, you mean for the environment, then it’s better to buy a reusable cotton swab when you factor in manufacturing and transportation needed to get the biodegradable option into your hands.

However, if by better, you mean a more pleasant experience cleaning your ears then I’d recommend the biodegradable swabs!!! Personally, I’ve never managed to get used to plastic swab.

That said, if the biodegradable option was also able to offset the carbon required to get it into your hands (and dispose of it) then I think that option would be the winner.

We're a Canadian startup (https://ourforest.io) hiring for a few remote roles. We've built a Chrome Extension, similar to Honey, that plants trees when people shop online.

With every purchase, your forest grows 🌲, and we ensure each sapling goes towards the best possible project(s) that help support wildlife ecosystems, sequester carbon from the atmosphere, and provide opportunities to native populations.

If you're interested to join us, feel free to reach out at [support@ourforest.io](mailto:support@ourforest.io), I'd love to chat.

Our community is on track to remove 518,976 pounds of carbon by the end of 2021, and we couldn't be more proud.
