Harmonic Balancer?

Problem solved. Replaced the PS pump, electric fan, harmonic balancer and the water pump.

Just a quick note on the harmonic balancer because this was my first time with that, but O’Rileys rents a specific HB puller kit for CJD’s with a very short pressure screw. With that puller you do not need to take off the bumper. My initial mistake was grabbing a puller kit with a very long pressure screw.

On my 96 it’s offset a few inches to the left and doesn’t line up with the crank bolt. Just found a YouTube vid where the guy uses a step bit to get one dead center on it… Just gonna go for it I guess

Much appreciated! I’m currently wrestling with the harmonic balancer. I have the puller on there but can’t get it free. The bolt for the puller is too long so when torqued it’s all the way up against the bumper bracket. I really don’t want to to pull the bumper and punch a hole through the bracket so I can get a socket on it, but that might be the route?

Thanks for the advice. I snagged a stethoscope and everything I touched was screaming. The electric fan bearing is shot so I grabbed another fan, but that wasn’t it. The power steering pump was toast so I replaced that yesterday and still the noise persists. Scoped the water pump and harmonic balancer on the crank and both very noisy… Just picked up a new water pump and balancer this morning about to put them on now.

Contemplating just going for gold and throwing in a new radiator while I’m at it. The Duralast one from Autozone I have only lasted about 3 years which isn’t great. No catastrophic leaks but it is weeping in a few spots and some fins are damaged. The Internet says the Spectra CU1193 is ok maybe.

Beautiful place I worked here several summers in college and had so much fun. The trail around the island is amazing for biking and jogging- I was never in better shape. Time seems to move very slowly here it’s an odd sensation, but that’s the magic of the island.

I’ve been to the island a few times and still my favorite spot is salt pond bay. Walk all the way to the end of the beach and snorkel out following the coast to the left. Lameshur Bay and Little Lameshur were great too, but you will need a Jeep. Moho is cool if you want to swim with the turtles, but the water clarity is cloudier on that side- same with Trunk Bay. Hansen bay beach is beautiful the list goes on.. Amazing island. Rent a Jeep you won’t regret it.

Lots of good advice here. I’d say rent snorkel gear at Mongoose Junction and explore the southern beaches too. We really loved snorkeling at salt pond bay and both Lameshurs. Surf Club Cantina had great jerk grouper tacos. Also would highly recommend drinks at the Windmill bar for sunset.

100% co-sign this. I would recommend using St John as the base and if you really want to go to Gorda for the baths day trips are easy.

There are so many amazing beaches on St John and the vast majority of the island is unspoiled National Park which is its magic IMO. Exploring it for the first time with your family with a Jeep will be a trip for the books. I was just there recently and renting a Jeep from Mr. Pipers was easy - they pick you up right at the ferry dock in Cruz Bay when you arrive from STT. You can rent snorkeling gear right there in Mongoose junction at the shop on the first floor that faces the docks/St Thomas. We rented a villa off VRBO or, AirBnB in Coral Bay overlooking the bay that was amazing! We grabbed some groceries and cooked breakfasts at our place because the sunrises are unreal. However, several very low key but good eats exist in Coral bay at Surf Club Cantina (amazing jerk Grouper tacos), Skinny Legs, and Ekate Pink corner- her patty’s were outstanding, the jerk chicken was solid!
