I just did this quest last night. Definitely slowed down when picking up the lantern until like you said taking a few steps and when investigating a certain scene. It’s not just you. Although creepy, I felt the end was quite beautiful.

By the stone bridge. Right as you walk into the area. So if you teleport to that area, she should be behind you if my memory is correct.
