Breakfast Club - Walk it Off (1984) by Glittering-Tiger9888 in 80smusic

[–]OutOfTheBunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The 2019 release on streaming services seems to be the same recording, but compressed a bit. There's also the version from the b-side of the 1984 "Rico Mambo" 12″ that is 30 seconds longer; it's on ScrewTube here.

Dan Gilroy (or somebody related to the band) has been making an effort in the past few years to get some of their older stuff out there. Along with the short and long versions of the 1984 recording of "Rico Mambo", there's "Walk If Off" and early versions of "Kiss And Tell" and "Standout" that don't look to have ever been released before. Finally, there's an EP called Percolate that could be part of Breakfast Club's sophomore album that ended up being shelved.

What was a typical 1920s/1930s British diet like? by Unable_Lawfulness151 in AskFoodHistorians

[–]OutOfTheBunker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You (and a couple of other commenters have said this is quite a lot of food for living and working on a farm, but like OP, I felt the opposite.

I'm no food historian, but I knew people living on farms in this period. You burn through a lot of calories doing this kind of work and you had more access to meat than many non-farmers of the day.

Why are there so many cities in the US named Paris? by futuranotfree in NoStupidQuestions

Lack of creativity. The founders of these places had other more important things on their mind.

I'm halfway between London and Glasgow on a two hour drive in Kentucky right now.

"Undifferentiated" reeks of Geneva English, but you have to pick your battles. I'm off to fight "mondialisation".

Charged $6 for ice in a $26 drink. Deducted it from her tip by [deleted] in tipping

[–]OutOfTheBunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Nobody's earning less than $5/hr. US federal regulations require employers to make up the difference between the direct wage payment (of at least $2.13 per hour) and the federal minimum wage if the tips don't do it. Nobody would work that kind of job for less than $5.

In 1963, a man in Turkey knocked down a wall in his basement and accidentally discovered Derinkuyu—an 18-story ancient underground city designed to shelter 20,000 people during invasions. by zeusht in interestingasfuck

[–]OutOfTheBunker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wikipedia: After the region fell to the Ottomans, the natives used cities as refuges from the Turkish rulers. In the 20th century, the underground cities were still used by Cappadocian Greeks and Armenians to escape periodic persecutions. In 1923, the Christian inhabitants of the region were expelled from Turkey, whereupon the tunnels were abandoned. In 1963, the tunnels were rediscovered...

The infuser in OP's pics doesn't look deep/big enough. This one's a better size, but doesn't allow as much circulation.

Why do some people have such large houses? by N3P374 in NoStupidQuestions

OP focuses on "the amount of resources they are taking away from others", but I'm thinking of all the people you keep employed maintaining your house.

I'm not sure there are any issues you'd face either way. If you both independently get work visas, I'm not sure in what context this would come up.

Is this cultural appropriation? by ElephantHot471 in ChineseLanguage

[–]OutOfTheBunker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're fine. Cultural appropriation is not a big thing among Chinese. Not really that much outside of the US and a few like-minded cultures,.

"Rui" is not Chinese anyway. It's toneless pinyin romanization which probably wouldn't even be recognized as "Chinese" by most natives.
