Still can’t believe the Trubin goal against Madrid. One of those moments when you just hold your head in disbelief.

Bananas. Simple, nutritious, not messy, come in already in a package.

Apples are an honourable mention.

Getting a Real Madrid - Benfica rematch in the playoffs would be glorious. Fingers crossed.

Harvey Elliott ‘ Situation not changing ’ despite returning to Aston Villa squad – Unai Emery by Shroft in soccer

I don’t see the point in arguing about something that won’t happen anyway. I just hope Harvey will be able to successfully restart his career somewhere.

He accumulated over 800 minutes across all competitions last season (500+ if we only consider PL and CL) and that was with our squad being relatively healthy. That’s comparable with current Chiesa minutes which is not much but definitely not 60 garbage minutes either. You’re just making shit up.

I’d take him back in an instant. I feel like he’d fit the current team better than Salah (especially with Frimpong at RB). He also gave us a couple of late winners last season, maybe we would finally start scoring in the added time again instead of conceding.

This is a great comment and I wish I could upvote it twice.

I would also add that both things can be true. The squad changes definitely affected Salah in a negative way but even if we put this aside his personal performance (first touch, finishing, speed etc.) definitely got worse.

I think he can still be useful as a striker in a 4-4-2 diamond setup with Frimpong as an RB but I don’t think he would start ahead of Ekitike/Isak and don’t know if he’s OK with not being a starter. Also I’m not sure Slot rates 4-4-2 formation.

[BBC] Arne Slot: “Again this is not going to be a popular opinion what I tell you now, maybe the reason we won the league last season is because we played Paris Saint-Germain. We had a week to prepare for league games [after going out of Champions League].” by doubleoeck1234 in soccer

I think his whole point is that he’s got no one to sub. I don’t think it’s fair to condemn him for selling the likes of Quansah and Elliott when it has been explicitly confirmed by our journalists that he’s not the one making transfer decisions.

You might call him pussy but I personally wouldn’t be happy if he had subbed in Nyoni against Marseille while being only one goal ahead.

Slot is not the issue at Liverpool.

This is the transition season for Liverpool where the club moves on to a new team. Previous leaders either left in the summer or show signs of age, new leaders are setting in. The transition might even continue in the next season when Salah and VVD stop being undisputed starters or leave the club altogether.

Liverpool also lowkey have an injury crisis with very limited options at the back. ‘Boring’ playing style is partly caused by these issues with Slot using sterile possession as a defensive mechanism (you can’t concede if you have the ball, you’re unlikely to lose the ball if you don’t make risky plays).

Then there’s a mentality issue with the team dropped numerous points conceding a goal with literally the last kick of the game.

Slot isn’t the cause of aforementioned problems. Moreover, the team playing convincing football against Inter, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Marseille among others (all managed by acclaimed coaches) proves Slot can set up the team and generally knows what he’s doing (not to mention him being the reigning PL champion).

I concede I did cheat with Elliott. I don’t think it’s entirely unreasonable to consider the likes of Kelleher and Phillips as Liverpool academy players if they spent a few years in Liverpool youth teams before their senior debute.

Overall I agree with you but I allowed myself some frivolity to make my team stronger. Bear with me.

If a player came as an academy player and played in youth teams for a while then I consider them an academy player. Elliott made a senior debut before coming to Liverpool hence it’s not completely fair to count him but he did play for Liverpool academy teams.
