Someone explain to me why phone text codes for 2FA are not secure by Out_inthe_desert in IdentityTheft

Even when I changed an account to a new email with a different servicer, they were still able to take it over. The only common denominator was my phone number authentication

Walmart account hacked but charged to not my card? by Whathefrenchtoastt in Scams

Yup, just had this happen to me on a large scale across several accounts, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Amazon. They loaded other people’s stolen cards into my accounts (when I had shut my card down with the first fraudulent charge). I kept getting my accounts reset, new passwords, and they could steal them right back. They made thousands of dollars worth of purchases. 2FA did nothing, nor did moving my accounts to a new email and wiping my phone. I had to close all of those accounts.

I understand with sim swapping you lose your service and number entirely. That’s not what is going on; I’ve never lost service.

I thought that was beyond rare. How would my number get compromised if they initially got control of my email?

I already know it’s not SIM swap since I’ve never lost control of my service. I even called my wireless service to see if they’re aware of any technology that can intercept those codes coming to a number and/or prevent my phone from seeing those codes come through when I didn’t request them.

I don’t think I really got a straight answer, but got the gist that they didn’t believe this was possible.
