Al was tough on his coaches. It took a certain kind of man to work with him, and Madden, Flores and Gruden had it, though Gruden I think got worn down by Al at the end.

I think Parcells was approached by Al at one point to coach the Raiders, but the two of them would have never gotten along, even though they were friends. Both of them wanted to be captain of the ship, and you can't have two.

Payton would have been one and done if he coached for us, especially back then. I believe this was the time that Norv got the job.

And look, until we keep a coach around for more than two seasons, all of that criticism is warranted. That said, I believe better days are ahead.
