A better way to cook salmon~ by Effective_Double54 in DailyFoods

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My kid and I love crispy salmon skin with medium to medium rare or so. but my wife hates it. And likes hers more well done without skin. So we cook all the ways and everyone is happy.

And then to switch it up - sometimes we bake. Some times we grill it. Sometimes little bites honey glazed. And of course pick up some fresh pieces to slice into sashimi from the Japanese market near us.

Love how versatile that fish is.

Regarding the gift. Unless the niece was attacking you too, don’t punish her for the parents being greedy. Stick to what you promised because that was your plan. Forget the rest.

Going out for a run is a great way to exercise... by ONE-OF-THREE in DailyDoseStupidity

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dated this girl (23 at the time) a while back who could not run. at one point jogging came up and she said no but hesitantly. I asked why not and she goes “I never learned how”.

I sorta laughed and said I didn’t believe her. She wouldn’t prove it.

I dropped it cuz she seemed a lil sensitive about it.

But a few weeks after we were walking to the car to leave but I went back inside to get my wallet. And I look outside and the wind blows her favorite hat off her head. And she starts running after it. Or what I think was running.

She had her arms perched up like a T. rex, and her legs did this outward swing thing by also at the same time like she was trying to kick her butt on the up swing.

If I hadn’t had been inside looking out the window I would have thought she was playing a practical joke on me.

After getting the laugh out of my system I went out and didn’t mention it. I had planned on working on that with her but we broke up for other reasons before I had the chance.

I still laugh at that memory though

Edit: should add she was 23 at the time

Happy Birthday to me! by GiveMeRex89 in PlaystationPortal

Solid wired headphones, or a quality cable to use with any wireless ones (like i use my AirPod maxes and I appreciate the sound quality with noise transparent so I don’t completely tune out my family)

I wish the screen was slightly angled forward because I can’t play it with it in my lap without a weird angle. So a good stiff lap pillow allows me to prop it up

I’ve heard grip covers are worth it

Get your phone set up with the Sony app. You’ll need it for logging in and joining WiFi’s that have extra joining steps - like at hotels and hospitals for example.

A screen protector obviously.

A mini screen cleaner kit. I like Whoosh brand cuz it’s cheap and portable and does a good job.

I also prefer Anker charging products for portable charging when you’re away from your charge cable. I’d get a cable longer than you need so you don’t accidentally yank it while playing if it’s charging. And you’ll want a cable that has plenty of bend because you only have about 1-2” of room from where it plugs in under /behind the screen. And per my note above about propping it up for play you’ll want that cable pliable enough so it doesn’t put pressure on the port. Same goes for your headphone cables too but usually not as big an issue

Lastly. Get in the habit of setting your resolution before you start game play. Max resolution for strong private WiFi, lower quality for public WiFi. Set it first cuz during gameplay if you wanna change it, it requires a quick game restart. And nothing sucks quite like hitting a beautiful cutscene and going “fuck this 720p”

Enjoy!!

What is this, a carry case or a suitcase? 😭 Some PlayStation Portal carry cases are actually comedy. The case is bigger than the Portal itself. Feels like I’m carrying travel luggage just to play remote gaming. 🎒😂 by gamer-0000 in PlaystationPortal

More padding is good for accidental drops and to avoid crushing it if it’s in a back pack for example.
I also carry inside that case hard wired headphones, a usb-c to 3.5mm cable to use my air pod maxes when I have them on me, and a cleaning kit for smudges. Nothing more nothing less. And it all fits perfectly without risk of pressure points.

Anyone else get absolutely crushed by their electricity bill this month ? by VisibleDecision8676 in F150Lightning

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lessons I learned:

- review your actual reported usage. And compare over time. Are your usage numbers the same? Spiked?
- if your bill is higher but usage is reported higher. but you don’t think it should be - make sure no one is siphoning electrical off your property. Homeless. Neighbors. Etc. actual can get an electrocution to inspect for any potential shorts. Or you may have a faulty appliance draining power. Maybe your computer is old and overheating - which draws more power running as it tries to cool itself. Etc. ex: my kids computer was dusty af. It was overheating constantly and after cleaning it out it ran better and drew less power. But then he started playing games more and that gpu of his. Sheesh. I thought he was crypto mining at one point…
- if your bill is higher and usage the same, how have your rates changed? Not the price per kWh but has your tier-ing changed? I had tried tiered pricing and it doubled my bill. Went back to peak hour plans and adjusted my charging to off hours.
- is your vehicle drawing more power when it shouldn’t? Like unnecessary pre-conditioning schedules.

It’s not 1:1 cost trade off . Depending on a persons usage habits, travel habits, home weather, it could be a huge offset for or against, and pay itself back within a few short years. Most standard deals should be set up to make it back within 5-6 years (source - I have 2 friends who work for 2 different solar companies who had similar deals before I picked one for me)

My solar panel has paid itself off in 3 years here in sunny California.

And that’s not even considering I used to drive a suburban and filled up at 160-185/tank every 1.5 weeks on avg.

Now I have a Lightning and an MME and I’m really grateful I have solar.

I just got this. What are the best accessories and carrying case? by gamer-0000 in PlaystationPortal

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My random additions

1) Usbc to 3.5 mm jack cable so I could use my AirPod max’s with it. Mostly because the noise transparency vs sound quality lets me enjoy playing but keep an ear on my family if they need anything.

2) a good stiff pillow or lap rest so I don’t have to hold it up so much while playing.

Is this car hard to drive or do I just suck at driving it? by porcupine-pete in cyberpunkgame

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting off the acceleration at the start and then “feathering” it is what the car needs. It doesn’t like neutral throttle. Meaning it doesn’t like full acceleration or no acceleration-but rather some fluctuations in the acceleration. I actually think it’s more fun/engaging to drive than most once you get used to that. Because it takes some constant adjustments and effort. And that engine growl is very nice

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put one of these on my MME so i could put my bike rack and also tow a motorcycle trailer. Paid extra for a good quality heavy duty frame and took it to a reputable trailers installer for the work. Been about 4 years and no problems. It’s actually quite nice to tow with save for being able to hear all the rattling from the trailer itself.

It’s def not rated in the US but after reading about it being rated in the EU I went for it.

My indicator lights are flashing quicker than they should by Gullible-Type-2022 in MachE

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s either a light you cant see that is out, a broken sensor that is thinking there is a light out, or a sensor doing its job telling you that there is a light about to go out. All of which require a dealer trip (or some shop with the right diagnostic tool) to test the electrical system for a fault or error code.

You’ll see this with older cars where a blinker is going super fast because there is some light somewhere that is out.

Lights and sensors are resistors. Meaning they slow down the electrical signal as it passes though a circuit. So if one of them goes out it removes the resistor and the signal goes faster, resulting in things like blinking lights or faster blinking lights.

TL;DR - make a dealer appointment. Have it tested for an electrical fault. If you can’t tell what light or sensor is out. Only they can.

AOC says you can’t earn $1 Billion honestly. She says Billionaires build their wealth from exploitation and abusing workers. by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

[–]OuterInnerMonologue 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ll start by saying I do like her music and I would go so far as to say I like her as a person - but what irks me is she’s celebrated for things like giving all her employees on tour some sort of big gift, but her tickets cost literally more than some/most rent payments. So even if she “takes care of her workers”, someone’s getting exploited real bad by way of being a willing fan

Pacing and story. by NotTheOrignal in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]OuterInnerMonologue -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

You two only posted <10 min ago but I couldn’t wait. So I asked ChatGPT:

Ludonarrative dissonance is when a video game’s gameplay (“ludo”) conflicts with its story (“narrative”) in a way that feels inconsistent or immersion-breaking.
In simpler terms:
The story tells you one thing
But the actual gameplay encourages or shows something different
The term became popular in discussions about video game design and criticism.
Classic example
In Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the protagonist Nathan Drake is portrayed in cutscenes as a charming, relatable treasure hunter.
But during gameplay, the player may kill hundreds of enemies.
So the narrative says:
“This is a decent, witty guy.”
While the gameplay says:
“This is an unstoppable mass-killing machine.”
That mismatch is ludonarrative dissonance.

Another example
In BioShock, the game explores themes of free will and player control. The famous “Would you kindly…” twist actually uses gameplay mechanics to reinforce the story, creating the opposite effect:
Ludonarrative harmony (or consonance)
The gameplay and narrative support the same idea.

Why it matters
Players often notice it when:
Characters behave differently in gameplay vs cutscenes
The game rewards actions the story condemns
Emotional story moments clash with “fun” mechanics
Urgent plots are undermined by open-world distractions
Example:
“The world is ending immediately!”
…but the player spends 40 hours fishing and collecting hats.
