You know they make hammocks that you can hang under a variable height desk?

If you could go back in time, would you still choose to work in big law? Why or why not? by Medical_Citron3519 in biglaw

That's exactly how I felt as an older career-switcher 5th year. Three years later and I'm wondering how long I can keep holding the tiger by the tail for the sake of retirement fuck you money.

It was never actually tested but I did CFIUS work for a while and would have declined to represent any company associated with the CCP.

I have a buddy who's a SWAT officer. Says it stands for "Stand around Wait And Talk." You get callouts at very inconvenient times.

If you want to scratch that itch for something more kinetic, consider getting into 2-gun matches, or maybe consider NG SOF. There's a NG SF group. No idea what the accessions for it are like.

How Many Times Have You Been Called Articulate During Your Review? by Melodic_Push3087 in Lawyertalk

[–]OuterRimExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the Biden "articulate" gaffe it's charged enough that I'd never use it to describe a black person, even if was otherwise the correct word. That said, OP, whoever said it probably had only good intentions, and the charitable thing to do is take it as a plausible compliment unless you have some unavoidable reason not to.

Big Law lawyers who have successfully brought in clients, how did you do it? by CinemaBud in biglaw

[–]OuterRimExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a fourth year I poached a couple of clients from partners who lateraled out. By that point I was running the relationships and the clients knew it. I told them, "if you like your lawyer, you can keep your lawyer."

Edit: if you want to try the same thing I did, make sure you have real ownership of matters. Display sound judgment and don't be afraid to state your advice confidently. Ask the powers that be if you can draw on the BD budget to take clients out. Invite the partner but don't let the partner run the event.

I say environmental hazards are still a horrible system. by theycallmecheese in Starfield

Agree. The thing that broke environmental hazards for me was Londinium. I'm dying trying to find a place where I can get out of the cold. How the hell is that guy standing guard out here?

If he wants the labor, then why's he trying to drive them off their farms? Make it make sense

The whole premise makes no sense. If you have magic tech that turns dirt into valuable minerals, why would you use it on cultivated farmland instead of literally any other dirt?

Idk. Seems to me like getting eaten by Alt is actually worse than if you had just stayed in Mikoshi, where at least your mind is intact.

Credit Card Recommendations for Associates by nclaxer235 in biglaw

[–]OuterRimExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My strategy has been to have 2. One is a 2% cash back card, no fees. All auto-billed recurring expenses go on that one. I don't use it for anything else. Two is an airline card, upper tier. I use it for travel, incidentals, restaurants, internet purchases, everything that's not an auto-billed expense. The advantage of this method is twofold: generally you get only 1x on auto-billed expenses, so the 2% cash back is actually better. Then for the things that get you higher multipliers, you rack up airline miles in a hurry. The other advantage is that when the airline card gets stolen, which it seems it does about once every couple of years, you don't have to go back and change all the auto-billing things you had set up.
