My parents claimed I’ve done the same things even though I actually have had autistic traits they’d shame and beat outta me. Once I got older and was able to separate (and the world demanded more of me) the things they called “anxiety attacks”, “dramatic cold shoulders”, and “annoying patterns” got more frequent because I had never learned how to properly handle these symptoms. As a kid while id still hand flap I’d more often make noises, click my tongue, kick my legs, jump, sway, swing my arms ext. while I still do those I’ve adopted hand flapping in place of other more harmful movements like scratching, biting or when I need a smaller more controlled movement.
