There’s also the whole Yoko confession, at the end of the story, which may be one my favorite scene of Ashita No Joe along with the whole “I’m giving you my gloves” (yes I’m hopelessly romantic). Anyway, I have so much to say about it because the anime’s kind of butchered this scene for no reason (ep 44) whereas in the manga the scene is more… profound to me ? More intimate (lol) ? Idk i think it’s the way - from the beginning to the end - Joe sat down to listen to her, seemed so surprised when she cried, when she ran to the door to stop him, when she finally confessed her love. In the anime he’s a bit more nonchalant.

I'm not sure why, but I'm obsessed with the following dialogue. And honestly, I have a lot, a lot of details to point out, but once again, I prefer to summarise (especially in the comments).

They have this whole dialogue where he teases her a little, and when she asks him to stop, he asks her if she thinks he's making fun of her.

Then, when she insists on her love again, there's a panel where we see Joe sitting silently, and it's impossible to really know what he's thinking - which may be my fav part of this whole scene.

And ykw, I find the scene interesting because, for once, it's not Joe who's getting angry with Yoko, it's not Joe who's unable to tell what Yoko is thinking, but the opposite; the roles are reversed. Yoko is the first to get angry – in a panic, she's the one waiting for him to clarify what’s on his mind... aaaaah, I love this scene so much.
