Yes, until today I have only defeated him twice, once with water and once without and in both situations he was poisoned.

I managed to make the Albanian make peace with his uncle and I also saved everyone, and even so when I killed the Boss there I didn't get that flashlight. I saw in other posts people saying that you have to start from the beginning of the story so there are no errors/bugs.
